I've always been able to eat and drink whatever I've wanted to and never had a problem with weight until now (in my 50s). During my last two physicals, I asked my doctor for help with the extra pounds. She just tried to humor me, saying "it's part of getting older! The 'midline bulge' is something we all have!" I told her I don't want it! I'm very self-conscious about my... (can I even say it!)...obesity; and I feel some people are treating me differently or even talking about me! (Now I sound paranoid! But I notice little things like that!) Because I seriously wanted to turn back the scale, I talked with my pharmacist about OTC diet aids (drinks, pills, etc.). She said she would not personally use those things because of side effects associated with the majority of those products. She steered me toward better eating habits and exercise. Hmmm.

Many years ago, when I was just a little overweight, I had joined SparkPeople because I wanted access to the tools I needed to analyze my diet. I found the whole program to be very helpful. After my husband died suddenly, life seemed to stop for me, too. I didn't really gain weight then; I just wasn't eating right. And when I started eating normally again, my body decided to store it all! Something changed! And here I am, seven years later, picking up where I left off with SparkPeople... but with extra and unwanted pounds.

My Goals:
I am striving to change eating and exercise habits that will help me to improve my health, appearance, and self esteem.

My Program:
I eat breakfast (rather than skip it) and I eat planned and healthy snacks now (so I'm not ravishingly hungry and grab whatever is handy. I am drinking 64 ounces of water, taking vitamin supplements, measuring and tracking my meals and snacks on the Nutrtion Tracker, walking 10,000+ steps per day.

Personal Information:
I was born in International Falls, Minnesota, the oldest of 3 kids. When I was 10yo, my family moved to Oregon. After graduating in the dental field there, I returned to MN where I eventually married the love of my life. His sudden death in 2002 and the sudden death of my Dad a few years later, spun me into an unrelenting period of intense grief. In 2007, I remarried and began this new chapter in life. And Life is Good.

Other Information:
I am a born-again Christian. I am passionate about indepth Bible studies/ learning and developing my personal relationship with God.

I am a proud Mom (to my son, Mike, who is making the Air Force his career, and to his lovely wife, Katie); and I am a proud Gramma to five very precious children!

I am a Stampin' Up demonstrator with a passion for stamping and creating, and for teaching others.

In addition, I am volunteering several days a week at a local nursing home. I love helping and interacting with the residents there. (Right now, this feels like my purpose in life!)

I love the great outdoors. Some of my favorite things are sandy beaches (which I NEVER see enough of!), ocean cruises, retreats with girl friends, chick flicks, photography, hiking/walking, biking, yardwork, birdwatching, watercolor painting...
I just plain love life! LOL.

RAYLINSTEPHENS, I was so excited to get a response from you! :-) But I am sorry to hear that your hubby is having heart issues. I hope he is okay. As far as your weight gain, don't beat yourself up! There are only so many hours in a day, and sometimes our train gets off the track. I too have been a caregiver for several months now; and I too have gained back about 20 pounds. I was recently told that I need to take care of myself so that I can better take care of my loved ones. I knew that, yet didn't heed that exhortation right away; and now I am pretty much forced to pay attention to my diet and exercise to avoid a possible surgery. So, I'm beginning this journey anew, trying to balance it with my caregiving. It really is a challenge. I wish you and your hubby the very best. Stay in touch as you are able. Blessings and Prayers your way...

Thank you for contacting me - and complimenting me on my picture.

Sadly, that picture is about 25 lbs lighter than I am now - but it's been quite a year with my DH's heart.

One day I hope to get back on track, but I am still here and semi-active. I just had to finally accept that Ray takes most of my time and if something has to give, it can't be him. So I put back some pounds and now maintain a bit heavier than before his heart problems.

Life goes on and Living is good!

I will make sure you are still a friend - and I'm glad to have you!

    huggers,
    Linda

    Thank you, Raylinstephens. :-)

Before I got your message back, I went to some of the help tips and followed their instructions... but it was saying to do just what our fearless leader ;-) asked us not to do... I don't get it. Anyway, I tried and now I can't delete that! Maybe it will just vanish into cyberspace and nobody will pay attention to me! lol

I did go in just now and posted a comment according to your message... and it worked perfectly! Thank you!

    ***sigh***

Yes, a lot of teams have an "introduce yourself" thread and everyone just replies to the thread - and it does look like you are replying to the last comment - but you're not.

When they have thousands of members, it really gets messy if everyone starts a separate thread just to say hello.

Some teams also have a sort of login thread where you say hello every day.

Good Luck in your new team!!
