Fanning the Sparks!
I've always been able to eat and drink whatever I've wanted to and never had a problem with weight until now (in my 50s). During my last two physicals, I asked my doctor for help with the extra pounds. She just tried to humor me, saying "it's part of getting older! The 'midline bulge' is something we all have!" I told her I don't want it! I'm very self-conscious about my... (can I even say it!)...obesity; and I feel some people are treating me differently or even talking about me! (Now I ...

I told her I don't want it! I'm very self-conscious about my... (can I even say it!)...obesity; and I feel some people are treating me differently or even talking about me! (Now I sound paranoid! But I notice little things like that!) Because I seriously wanted to turn back the scale, I talked with my pharmacist about OTC diet aids (drinks, pills, etc.). She said she would not personally use those things because of side effects associated with the majority of those products. She steered me toward better eating habits and exercise. Hmmm. Many years ago, when I was just a little overweight, I had joined SparkPeople because I wanted access to the tools I needed to analyze my diet. I found the whole program to be very helpful. After my husband died suddenly, life seemed to stop for me, too. I didn't really gain weight then; I just wasn't eating right. And when I started eating normally again, my body decided to store it all! Something changed! And here I am, seven years later, picking up where I left off with SparkPeople... but with extra and unwanted pounds.

My Goals:
I am striving to change eating and exercise habits that will help me to improve my health, appearance, and self esteem.
My Program:
I eat breakfast (rather than skip it) and I eat planned and healthy snacks now (so I'm not ravishingly hungry and grab whatever is handy. I am drinking 64 ounces of water, taking vitamin supplements, measuring and tracking my meals and snacks on the Nutrtion Tracker, walking 10,000+ steps per day. In addition, I am working out at Curves four times per week.
Personal Information:
I was born in International Falls, Minnesota, the oldest of 3 kids. When I was 10yo, my family moved to Oregon. After graduating in the dental field there, I returned to MN where I eventually married the love of my life. After his sudden death in 2002, I have struggled to regain purpose and focus in life...and I believe that I will get there!
Other Information:
I am a born-again Christian. I am passionate about indepth Bible studies/ learning and developing my personal relationship with God. I am a proud Mom (to my son, Mike, who is making the Air Force his career, and to his lovely wife, Katie); and I am a proud Gramma to four very precious children! I am a Stampin' Up demonstrator with a passion for stamping and creating, and for teaching others. I love the great outdoors. Some of my favorite things are sandy beaches, ocean cruises, retreats with girl friends, chick flicks (aka romance and tear-jerker movies), photography, hiking/walking, biking, yardwork, watching birds, watercolor painting, woodworking... I just plain love life! LOL.
