December 2007, probably my highest weight

August 2011. This is the "happy medium" between the two extremes.

December 2010, at my lowest weight. It was too low for me to maintain.

The story continues......

Update, July 4, 2013:

I gained more weight (yes, again), so I set new goals for myself. I changed my goal to weigh 160. This will be a weight loss of 36 pounds from now. It feels like an insurmountable goal right now. I already lost around 6 pounds from where I started a few months ago (in April?). Iím not jumping up and down about that, because my weight has really been fluctuating lately. I canít seem to stay on plan! I just want to eat all kinds of junk rather than healthy foods.

So right now, if I can lose 2 pounds per week, I am hoping to reach my goal weight by November 2013.

This is how I am going to do that:

Stay within my calorie range each day.
Track ALL the food I eat.
Eat healthy foods and stay away from snack foods and other junk foods.

My incentives:
I want to wear smaller-sized clothes.
I want to feel more confident in myself.
I want to get rid of (or lessen) the pain in my knees.
I want to feel less embarrassed to get weighed in at doctorsí offices.
I want to be healthy so I can live a longer life.

So that's where I am right now.

Update, 4/27/12: I've gained even more weight. Ugh. So yesterday I started the plan outlined in the book, "The Beck Diet Solution" by Dr. Judith R. Beck. I know from experience that half the battle of losing weight is keeping your mind in the game, so I am hoping that this book will help me do just that.

I've also changed my weight loss goal to weigh 140. I have a long way to go at this point, but I think I can do it. Baby steps! When I climb a steep hill, I keep my head down so I can see my feet so I see them take one step at a time. I just can't look at how far I need to go, or I get overwhelmed. So I'm trying to do that with my weight loss. One little step at a time. I'm going to celebrate little goals.

Update, 2/24/12: I regained some weight (okay, a lot of weight!) from November to December 2011, and that's when I started here at SparkPeople. As of this date, I've lost about 34 pounds, and when I reach my goal weight, I will lose a total of nearly 43 pounds. I have no intention of trying to lose as much weight as I had originally lost back in December 2010. It's just not a realistic weight to maintain. My goal is to weigh 135 pounds. As of my last "official" weigh in (2/24/12), I currently weigh 143.9. I have about 9 more pounds to go to reach my goal!! Hooray!!!!

----------------------------------------
----------------------

I lost 139 pounds from April 2009 to December 2010 using Optifast, a medically supervised weight loss program. I was able to maintain that weight loss for quite some time until recently. I had thought that the only way to keep the weight off was to accept a life of severely restricting my eating to an incredibly low number of calories per day, with limited choices of foods. But I found out that that sort of thinking only sets me up for binge eating, thus causing weight gain.

However, now that I've joined SparkPeople, I'm learning that it doesn't have to be that way. I can lose weight and still enjoy a variety of foods! Yay!!!

With support from family and my new SparkFriends, I know I will get back to a weight that I can maintain!

My Goals:
I want to develop a healthy relationship with food, to get at least 10 minutes of exercise every day, and to choose healthy foods. I am taking one day at a time. I feel overwhelmed when I try to look at the "big picture."

My Program:
I just began reading "The Beck Diet Solution" by Dr. Judith R. Beck, and I'm following its plan of daily activities. The gist of the plan seems to be that you need to change your thinking in order to lose weight. I feel really encouraged about using this plan of daily activities.

I know I also need to keep up with my Spark buddies to encourage and to be encouraged.

Right now, my exercise is pretty pathetic. My goal is to increase my activity to get some exercise (10 minutes or more) every day.

Personal Information:
Laura, from Ohio

Other Information:
I have a senior cat named Missy.

I'm not married, and I don't have any kids or grandkids. That's okay---I don't think I could put up with any of that! LOL

I love to read and to shop. Better yet, I love to shop for books! ;)

Hi Laura, I'm doing OK. It's busy here with work, church, grandkids, but I like being busy. I'm not where I want to be with my weight but seem to have little motivation to work at it right now. I love this time of the year. The days are beautiful. Blessings on your day today.
Janet
