Hi, I've been overweight for a long, long time. I see very obese people in wheelchairs and wonder 'what came first, the obesity or a disability' I fear that if I don't lose weight now, I'll be in a wheelchair within a few years. I absolutely don't want that, so I'm dieting and exercising daily to do all I can to avoid it.

My word for 2014 is Excitement. As part of a 'follow the star' Epiphany service at my church we were invited to pick a star with a word on it out of a basket--no peeking and no exchanging. The challenge was to post the star where it will be seen daily and to think about and pray about that word and what it means to us. I'm not sure what 'excitement' God has planned for me this year, but if I'm looking for and expecting excitement, I'm sure I'll find some.

My Goals:
My goal is to make healthy living my normal behavior.
I joined the 2014Winter 5% challenge and am really looking forward to it. I've lost over 5% in each of the last two challenges. My goals for this winter challenge are:
1. to walk everyday and try to get back up to 10,000 steps per day. I had surgery this fall and am still having problems with my back so I need to work at this goal very slowly.
2.to eat a relatively low carb, gluten free diet with 1300 to 1400 calories per day.
3. to lose 10 pounds, a bit over 5%.
4. I will be working 6 or 7 days per week during this challenge so I will need to pack nutritious meals.

My Program:
I'm eating a fairly low carb diet with emphasis on vegetables, fruits, low fat meat, poultry and fish.

I exercise as I am able and will be back to full workouts by spring (I hope)

Personal Information:
I am Mom to two adult children and Grammy to two boys and one girl.

I am a church musician. I play piano and keyboard.

Other Information:
Hobbies include knitting, spinning, weaving and pottery.

Hello from the Countdown to Spring team! Can you believe that Spring is almost here and our challenge will be ending? I just want to encourage you to keep pushing yourself to do your best each day. Only YOU can make your goals and dreams a reality, so be sure to work hard for them. You don't need me to remind you that you're worth the effort, do you? Well, in case you do, consider this to be your reminder!
Hugs,
Pixie

ďCHANGE: Donít just talk about it, go out there and do it.
Donít just meditate about it, go out there and create it.
Donít just pray about it, go out there and take action; participate in the answering of your own prayer.
If you want change, get out there and live it."

Good morning from the Countdown to Spring team! I hope you are having a healthy, fabulous week so far. Can you believe that there is less than a week until the first day of Spring? (It sure doesn't feel like it in my neck of the woods, though!) Let's make the most of these final days of the challenge...and then keep that momentum going! We can accomplish a lot if we just commit to doing our best one day at a time. We are worth the effort!
Hugs,
Pixie

"Sometimes victory seems so far away because we measure it only by the goal.
And end goals can seem overwhelmingly huge, daunting, and just plain hard to reach.
But if we start measuring our victories by the smaller choices we make each day, victory won't seem so impossible.
....It's amazing the chain reaction that can start in your life with just one good choice.
Big things are built one brick at a time.
Victories are achieved one choice at a time.
A life well lived is chosen one day at a time.
Oh sweet friend, you are closer than you think to victory!"

"Quit now and keep quitting.
If you are still wondering whether to quit, know that if you quit today, you will quit tomorrow.
Vince Lombardi said, once you learn to quit, it will become a habit.
Once we quit, our mind becomes programmed & will be ready to shut down any time it faces difficulty.
So let's fight now & keep fighting our way to victory!!!
Y'all with me?"

TGIF! Just stopping by from the Countdown to Spring team to remind you that Spring is right around the corner...less than two weeks away! Keep doing your best to make progress, one day at a time. Don't quit. We have to keep fighting, because we are worth the effort! Have a Spark-o-licious weekend!
Hugs,
Pixie

"You've heard the old procrastinator's turn of phrase, "Don't do today what you can put off until tomorrow."
Well, the same goes for procrastination itself. Put if off until tomorrow.
Seize the future you want by seizing the present you have.
Get started now Ė not tomorrow, next week or when you get around to it.
"Around to it" never seems to get here."

Guess what? There are still 23 days until Spring! Be your own hero and make the most of each one of those days...starting right now! You are worth the effort. See you on the Countdown to Spring team!

Pixie

"The scale can only give you a numerical reflection of your relationship with gravity. Thatís it. It cannot measure beauty, talent, purpose, life force, possibility, strength, or love. Donít give the scale more power than it has earned. Take note of the number, then get off the scale and live your life. You are beautiful!"

TGIF, gorgeous! I hope you've had a great week and are ready for a healthy weekend! We've still got 26 days until Spring, so lets not waste a single one of them. I'm rooting for you! See you on the Countdown to Spring team.

"It doesn't make sense to call ourselves ugly, because we don't really see ourselves. We don't watch ourselves sleeping in bed, curled up and silent, with chests rising and falling with our own rhythm. We don't see ourselves reading a book, eyes fluttering and glowing. You don't see yourself looking at someone with love inside your heart. There's no mirror your way when you're laughing and smiling, and happiness is leaking out of you. You would know exactly how bright and beautiful you are if you saw yourself in the moments where you are the most beautiful."
