2013- Time to get serious

My weight loss journey began in March of 1996 when I joined TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). I reached my goal by the end of 1997, having lost 129.75 pounds. I kept the weight off for about a year, but then let my guard down and started gaining. For a while I stopped trying and before I knew it I had gained back just over 100 pounds before I turned things around again and started to lose. I've had my ups and downs ever since, but being a part of TOPS has kept me from being too out of control. Somewhere along the way I found SparkPeople, which has also helped.

For the last few years I have made no progress. I might lose a little, but then gain it back. I have pretty much stayed in the same 10 pound range. While I am glad I haven't gained a significant amount, I need to lose. I know the reason I haven't lost is that I am too careless with my eating habits and I find too many excuses not to exercise as much as I should.

In December of 2012 two of my TOPS friends passed away. Both were KOPS who had been at their goal weight for several years. I will miss them a lot, but I have decided the best thing I can do to honor them is to work hard at getting my own KOPS status back. It probably won't happen in 2013 since I need to lose more than I am likely to do in one year, but I WILL work harder and get closer to goal by the end of the year and should be able to become a KOPS once again in 2014. I know my friends will be smiling down on me when I am reinstated.

My Goals:
I would like to be able to climb stairs without being out of breath and to sit down and not see a roll of belly fat! I would also like to fit into some of the clothes packed away in my closet rather than having to buy more fat clothes.

My Program:
I belong to TOPS for the accountability of weekly weigh-ins and face-to-face support, but I like the 24/7 availability of SparkPeople. I am trying to be careful about portions sizes and also to make smarter choices, substituting healhier versions of some of my favorite foods rather than giving them up completely. Watching what and how much I eat along with exercising regularly should get me closer to my goal weight.

Personal Information:
My name is Beverly and I live in southern Vermont. I have an adult son and daughter and four grandchildren- three boys and one girl.

Hi, I hope you don't mind, but I did post an April Fitness challenge in the Daily Goals Forum.

Would you check it out, and send an email to the team.
Also, would you put a "sticky" on it.

If this is a problem, please let me know.

How do we start a challenge? I was thinking that for April, we could have a group fitness minutes challenge for the Vermont Sparkers Team. How could I set that up?

You are so welcome for the flame and hoping it will be a reminder for you to stay on the losing track again
I am currently still backliding not a lot less than a pound a week now for three weeks but seeing as am so close to my first set goal it is a concern at one time was one pound from goal and regained it all plus
Hoping you are taking steps to get out of the rut and begin losing the 50 pounds that you still want to lose
One day at a time

Hello, and thanks for the beach towel goodie. Things like that are very motivating. It lets me know that my fellow Sparkers are out there cheering for my success. I noticed that you're a TOPS Pals leader. I'm on that team too. !GO TOPS PALS!

Thank you for stopping by my blog. Between tracking my meals on Spark and my Tops meetings I finally met my goal.

I'm using the Diabetic Meal plan (because I love foods with carbohydrates) and that plan limits them.

Before I started using that plan I'd have a nice weight loss then gain most of it, if not all of it back.

It has made it easier for me to lose weight a little at a time and keep it off. Best wishes in your weight loss journey. emoticon Rita
