2015- New Year, New Start

When I first joined TOPS in 1996 I weighed in at 269.75 pounds. Thankfully I have not weighed that much again since that day. I successfully reached my goal weight of 140 pounds by the end of 1997 by being careful about what and how much I ate and by doing a lot of walking. I kept the weight off for about a year, but then I started slacking off and the weight started to come back on- faster than it came off. It took me a few years to get myself back on track and I had gone back up to 245 at one point. Over the years I have never managed to stay on track long enough to get even close to my goal and I have been up and down, most of the time being somewhere between 180 and my current 210. I ended 2014 with a gain of about 7 pounds- not a huge number but not good when I was already overweight by over 60 pounds at the start of the year. The past couple of months have been a bit rough because I have been unable to get out and walk, which is my usual form of exercise, due to an ulcer on my foot. I know there are other things I can do, but I just haven't found the motivation to do them! While I don't believe in New Years resolutions, it does seem like the start of the new year is a perfect time for me to make a fresh start and work on creating a healthier me. So far, my excess weight has not caused any serious health issues, but the older I get the more likely I am to develop problems so I need to get the weight off now and keep it off. I want to be healthy enough to enjoy retirement in a few years.

My Goals:
I would like to be able to climb stairs without being out of breath and to sit down and not see a roll of belly fat! I would also like to fit into some of the clothes packed away in my closet rather than having to buy more fat clothes.

My Program:
I belong to TOPS for the accountability of weekly weigh-ins and face-to-face support, but I like the 24/7 availability of SparkPeople. I am trying to be careful about portions sizes and also to make smarter choices, substituting healhier versions of some of my favorite foods rather than giving them up completely. Watching what and how much I eat along with exercising regularly should get me closer to my goal weight.

Personal Information:
My name is Beverly and I live in southern Vermont. I have an adult son and daughter and four grandchildren- three boys and one girl.

Hi, I hope you don't mind, but I did post an April Fitness challenge in the Daily Goals Forum.

Would you check it out, and send an email to the team.
Also, would you put a "sticky" on it.

If this is a problem, please let me know.

How do we start a challenge? I was thinking that for April, we could have a group fitness minutes challenge for the Vermont Sparkers Team. How could I set that up?

You are so welcome for the flame and hoping it will be a reminder for you to stay on the losing track again
I am currently still backliding not a lot less than a pound a week now for three weeks but seeing as am so close to my first set goal it is a concern at one time was one pound from goal and regained it all plus
Hoping you are taking steps to get out of the rut and begin losing the 50 pounds that you still want to lose
One day at a time

Hello, and thanks for the beach towel goodie. Things like that are very motivating. It lets me know that my fellow Sparkers are out there cheering for my success. I noticed that you're a TOPS Pals leader. I'm on that team too. !GO TOPS PALS!
