2013- Healing and Restoration
Hi! My name is Tina and I've always had a battle with my weight. Hi! My name is Tina and I've always had a battle with my weight. I had gained some measure of normalcy in high school, but after marriage and then having 5 children in 7 years I quickly packed back on pounds ... plus. Add in some extreme emotional eating while having marriage problems early on and I "miraculously" ended up weighing over 350 lbs. Result ... I found out I was a diabetic (type 2) the week I turned 40. I managed to lose 50 lbs after that, but have been hovering around 300# now for YEARS, using every excuse NOT to really change my bad eating habits and dislike of exercise. In the past few years, I've really started having additional problems ... abdominal cramping/pain, leg edema, bathroom issues. These symptoms kept getting worse despite the fact that my primary care provider (military) kept telling me it was normal with "the change". It finally got bad enough that I insisted on being seen offbase. Two biopsies were done in June 2012, and it was cancer (late stage3 endometrial). I wasn't fearful, in fact, I almost felt vindicated! First, they got me into surgery quickly - a radical hysterectomy with 47 lymph nodes removed. The cancer had spread past my uterus into the cervix, then the vaginal vault, and into one lymph node. Although, the doctors feel the cancer was removed, chemo and radiation were recommended as safeguards. First, chemo (Sept through Jan) and then the radiation, internal and external treatments. I'm happy to say I'm in my last week of radiation now (Mar 2013). Throughout this entire process, my family and church family have been supportive and have agreed with my husband and I in prayer for healing and restoration of my life. This goes beyond the cancer and treatments .... it reaching into my life-long lack of self-worth to take care of myself. After recovery, I will have to start back exercising and watching what I eat in order to get healthier (and slimmer). I don't know what God has in store for me, but regardless of cancer or no cancer, I know it's GOOD because He is a GOOD GOD!!
