Emmaline Lake, August 2008. My dog Scarlet was my best hiking buddy.

These dogs aren't anywhere near as well-behaved as the old one.

I have been on Sparkpeople since 2008, but I didn't really begin to use the site until 2009. I started at a peak weight of 142 pounds, I dropped to 130 after my first few months on SP. Then I gained 10 pounds back after going on some medication and falling into old, bad habits - mostly too much wine and too much food. I finally was able to break the cycle and my plateau (and end an unhealthy 9-year relationship - coincidence?) the summer of 2011, and by 2012 was down to my lowest weight since junior high school (117 pounds), and I managed to maintain 117-120 for just over a year.

Then, I met the *best* man in the world, and in March of 2013 he moved in with me. As often happens, my food intake increased dramatically - hey, if you eat as much as a 170-lb man, you will end up weighing as much as a 170-lb man - and my weight began creeping back up. My boyfriend turned me on to CrossFit back in April, but even that wasn't enough to counteract the effects of over-eating. In July, I topped out at 129 pounds! Even though I was working out harder than ever, I was eating more than ever, too.

By August, I was tired of feeling like a stuffed sausage and made a firm commitment to get rid of the extra weight. Through a combination of religiously tracking my calories, reducing my alcohol consumption, and going to CrossFit 5x a week, I am back down to within spitting distance of my goal.

I'm currently doing a 60-day Paleo Challenge. I thought I ate healthy before, but cutting out sugar showed me just how much of it I was actually eating in a day! Aside from occasional meals out, it's been all-Paleo, all the time since September 16, and I'm feeling pretty good about it. Having celiac disease does make it easier to stay away from wheat products, but I've been surprised at how easy it has been to cut out dairy. The sugar was a little harder, but it's definitely been do-able.

As I just turned 38, I realize that I am also looking for more than physical changes. I am hoping to be able to create a life that I love and find more things that I am passionate about. I hope that my fitness journey will help me, at least a little bit, to do that, and it already has in many ways - I absolutely am bananas for CrossFit, and Ultimate Frisbee, and my boyfriend is a wonderful man who shares my enthusiasm for "funishment." So hopefully things will continue on this path to a most-excellent life :)

My Goals:
I reached my goal weight in January 2012. I was in maintenance until February 2013, when I realized my "maintenance" was slipping. I'm forging ahead with new focus to get back to where I want to be!

125 - Buy myself one new item of clothing.

122 - Get a massage.

120 - Get a haircut AND color at a *fancy* salon - no more Cost-Cutters!

118 - This may not be a realistic or desirable goal, so I haven't come up with anything as a reward - maybe new shoes?

My Program:
Martial Arts: 2 times a week, 1 1/2 hours each class

The Running of the Dogs: 2-4 times a week, 30-55 minutes a day.

CrossFit: 5x a week, 1 hour a day.

Personal Information:
I'm "from" a lot of places, but I currently live just outside of Boulder, CO. A great place to be.

Other Information:
October 2004 Easy Street Wheat Half-Marathon

May 2005 Fire Hydrant Five 5K

May 2006 Bolder Boulder 10K

August 2011 WARRIOR DASH, Copper Mountain

June 2012 Tough Mudder, Beaver Creek, Colorado

Sept. 2012 Tough Mudder, NorCal, Tahoe

I really like what you wrote in "Do you keep weight on to fit in" in the cafe message board, and I just had to thank you for writing it. I struggle with trauma in my past and what you wrote has definitely opened my eyes to a few things.

OMG, I love the individual peanut butter packages! Haven't seen them ANYWHERE around here in years. I'll have to check again. They are a great option as they don't require special handling (refrigeration, etc). Managed to do ok tonight (I think-haven't logged dinner yet). I really need to find some prepackaged stuff I can store at work, cause seriously, I carry a TON of stuff in every day just in the 'daily' breakfast, lunch, and snacks! And working downtown (and working out over the lunch hour) no grocery close enough to access while I'm at work.

BAH the wind is the worst. And so are cloudy skies. Yesterday it was ten degrees warmer than Sunday, but it was totally overcast. It made for a pretty miserable run.
