I started my new goals on SparkPeople March 5, 2008. I'm excited to see where this adventure will take me. A friend of mine told me about this site and I thought, "This will be entertaining for a few day - but why not? I have nothing to lose, but a few pounds." Well, I've now been here for nearly a year, and intend to keep visiting this site. I've learned a lot, found new ways to motivate myself, and new (and better) reasons to be motivated. I have lost some weight and a couple of inches, but more importantly I have gained better health, a more positive outlook, and a better perspective on life. My thanks go to the SparkGuy and everyone at SparkPeople for making this site possible.

My Goals:
My goal is to gain a healthier lifestyle, so I'll have energy to enjoy life with my husband and 4 boys.
My Program:
I'm learning to eat healthier (new recipies and less snacking) and exercise on a regular basis. I am concentrating on finding things that fit into my life and that I enjoy (so I will keep doing them). 5/24/08 - I am starting the "Couch to 5K" training. My husband and son, who are runners, are being my trainers. 10/4/08 - I ran my first 5K in August and now I am training to run a 4 mile race right after Thanksgiving. I have been building up my running at a sensible pace using training schedules I have found online. My husband is being my personal trainer and offering lots of encouragement. I am finding that I really enjoy this new hobby. 11/29/08 - I ran a 4 mile race with my husband and 2 of my sons. It felt great to be able to accomplish that goal. But I am finding that I don't care for cold weather running as much, so I am looking for things to keep in shape over the winter until it gets warmer outdoors.
Other Information:
"Wondrous is the strength of cheerfulness, and its power of endurance- the cheerful man will do more in the same time, will do it better, will preserve it longer, than the sad or sullen." - Thomas Carlyle Practice this: STOP! BREATHE! “Do I truly need to eat or have some other need to meet?” Inhale, exhale. Wait. Let Spirit and body align. This practice will save you every time.
