Smiling Through It All

I was always active and healthy. Then, the worst thing imaginable happened. My youngest son was diagnosed with cancer, an inoperable brain stem tumor. Suddenly, hospitals became our life. It was easier to grab a burger or something. And how could I tell him no. The whole family ballooned-up. When he passed away, at the age of 9, we ate our depression.

This year, my favorite charity is holding a 5k on what would have been my son's 17th birthday. Total light bulb moment. I began training. Not just for the 5k, but for my life.

“You are not a mistake. You are not a problem to be solved. It's possible to treat yourself with outrageous kindness beginning today. Compulsive eating is only the symptom; believing that you are not worth your own love is the problem.
Go for the love. You will never be sorry.”

I'm sorry you lost your son.
My son, Nathan had testicular cancer six years ago and had surgery & 4 rounds of chemotherapy. It was a terrible year since he had 3 different cancer cells and one was an aggressive cancer that had spread to his lymph nodes. Thankfully, he has done well since and is now 30, but he works out daily and stays fit as it can come back elsewhere.
