Smiles Weigh Less

I've spent my entire adult life overweight and I'm aiming to change that. At first the pounds crept on slowly, but in the last ten years I've perfected the art of weight gain and become a card-carrying member of the morbidly obese club. There is no underlying medical condition to blame, I have simply learned to depend on food as a means of comfort and pleasure.

The excess weight has stolen the joy out of many things over the years and has served as a source of both embarrassment ...

The excess weight has stolen the joy out of many things over the years and has served as a source of both embarrassment and, oddly enough, protection. Most of all, it has allowed me to become increasingly invisible in my own life.

So, once again I am beginning a weight loss journey. Historically I've been pretty good at losing the weight. Keeping it off, however, has proven elusive.

Can it be different this time? I sure hope so. It's going to take more than losing the weight, though. It's going to take learning to enjoy life in a different way than I have in recent memory. From where I'm sitting now, that is more intimidating than the pounds, but here I go anyway.

Bring on the veggies and release the smiles!

Thanks for the encouragement on my blog! I am going to focus on walking and decreasing my walk time to 15 min/mile. Maybe after I do that and lose a few pounds, the running may come to me then.
