Update 6/9/09
I have less than 1 lb to go. OH My Gosh! Now How do I do this part? In the past I would have quit long ago - and now here I am and I am excited, and nervous that I may not be able to maintain this! I know, I know - Just keep on Keepin' on! It's just that I have never been able to really maintain my weight loss before, and this is a little scary!

Update 9/24/09
Just a year ago I weighed 165, not good on a 5' 3" tall person! I had alarmingly high blood pressure and cholesterol and was on medication for both. I had hip bursitis and was to the point where I was seriously considering using a walker! And I had awful acid reflux.

I had managed to lose some of that weight before I found SparkPeople in January of 2009. But just like all of my previous attempts at losing and maintaining weight loss, I was floundering and about to give up! I knew I really had to do something that would change my entire attitude about losing weight. I was looking for a way to monitor my calories (at least I knew I had to be responsible for what I put in my mouth!) when I found the SparkPeople site. I didn't hesitate to join and start using the information I found here.

I reached my goal weight in June of this year and today I am still at that weight! Occasionally I go up a pound or two, but it comes right off again! What I thought was so scary, maintaining the weight loss, has just become a way of life! I have decided I would like to lose another 5 pounds, but am in no hurry to have it come off - it will happen in its own time.

My blood pressure is now normal, my cholesterol is now normal, I seldom ever have acid reflux any more (greasy food will still do it, so I avoid that!) and most surprising to me - the hip bursitis has improved to the point where I not only walk and exercise regularly - now I RUN! I used to run and do 5K races in the late 1990's, but weight gain and inactivity took its toll! I have run 3 5K races (took 2nd in my age group in 2 of them. ). I am registered for another 5K this weekend, where I will run with my daughter and granddaughter - 3 generations all running together! I am also registered for a 10K on October 4 (that is 6.2 miles!) and I plan to run a half marathon the end of November.

I am probably in the best health of my life today! I have been thinner - but not necessarily fitter!

Every day, in every way I am getting stronger, fitter, faster!

I believe without SparkPeople and the wonderful Sparkie friends I have met that would not have happened!

My Goals:
My goal is to get back to a healthy weight and maintain it so I can stay healthy and active. I have lost 30 lbs since August of 2008. I joined Spark People on Jan. 31, 2009 and now have just about 2 lbs to go to reach my goal weight. It's a little scary at this point, since this is where I usually give up. I don't want to do that this time. Spark People has been such a great resource and help to me in calorie counts and keeping my eating balanced and healthy.

A short term goal was to run a 5 K race, and then a 10 K race. I have now run 2 5K's and am training for a 10 K in October!

Update Nov.2,2009
I have now completed
4 5K's, and my first 10K. I am officially registered for my first Half Marathon on Nov. 29, 2009.

My Program:
Since joining Spark People I have been eating a healthy balanced diet with reasonable calorie count. I work out six days a week. I am now able to run (I didn't think I would be able to do that again, but look at me now!) I run 4 to 6 miles at least 3 days a week. The other 3 days I do other kinds of cardio and strength training.

Personal Information:
I live in Western Washington with my hubby of nearly 43 years. I have 2 grown children, and 4 grandkids. And a Cocker Spaniel named Sammy.

Thank you for the friend add, I've added you as well! I usually run with my husband, you can spot us by the matching neon yellow jackets this time of year! We are on the Cedar River trail more these days but still do Lake Wilderness from time to time. I will keep an eye out for you there!
