Hi everybody. My name's Rachel but you'll see me as skywatcherrs on my posts and e-mail. I live in the Dallas/Ft Worth metro area and have never lived outside Texas.

I joined SparkPeople to learn more about nutrition and fitness and also for the supportive atmosphere. I would like to make some friends while I increase overall health and fitness and hopefully lose a little bit more fat.

I'm not new to working out, eating right, or losing weight, but I do not have the attitude that I know it all or have seen it all. In fact, I learn something new about living a healthy lifestyle, working out, eating well, or losing weight every day!

My own journey from flab to fab started several years ago. I went through some stuff during my childhood that took a while to get over. Before I dealt with all of my childhood stuff, I covered the hurts with food and ate from boredom most of the time. At my heaviest I was about 210lbs and a size 20 pants. Then, after healing from the past, I looked at myself and thought - this is not me. So I started exercising and trying to eat better. I started losing weight mostly by using the tips I read on the internet and in magazines, plus what I remembered learning about the food pyramid in Health class while I was in school. Through a little experimentation, a lot of dedication, determination, and discipline I am now about 70lbs lighter and a size 8.

I LOVE working out. I love eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle. I made some mistakes along the way, but I've learned a lot! What I struggle with, though, is having a bad back - it limits what I can do and what I can't. I have to be vigilant about proper spinal support and alignment so that I don't hurt my back again. This is frustrating because I like to push myself to go harder, go faster, improve....

I am looking to trade information, tips, and support with other folks who want to lose weight, who love exercise and eating well, and want to be healthy in general.

I am fascinated with how the body works and how I can change the size, shape, and movement of my body by doing different exercise regimens and weight lifting.

I recently completed the certification process and am now a NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) certified personal fitness trainer. I hadn't studied that hard since college biology! Learning more about how the body operates and moves has only increased my fascination - truly, we are miracles of intelligent engineering. I've become very passionate about weight loss/weight management, fitness, and eating healthy. I want to help others lose weight like I did and feel great! I want to help wherever, whoever, and however I can. If you have a question for me or need some support in any way, please feel free to approach me!

Happy Sparking.....

I would like to continue to cross-train and be in the best shape I can be

Want to eschew society's ideal of beauty and accept my body as-is and love myself as a whole

Want to live more simply with less materialism

My Program:
Totally changed the way I train. I'm spending a LOT less time in the gym but my workouts are PHENOMENALLY more intense.

I focus more on circuit strength training (MRT - metabolic resistance training)and the use of supersets, and I also do HIIT or SIT for cardio 3x per week.

These are shorter workouts but better quality and I am seeing amazing results.

I'm glad you got a kick out of my status this morning. We moved from a little place with little storage to a larger place with more storage - but somehow there's still so much stuff that just doesn't fit! I've been dreaming about buying more shelves for so long... it is pretty funny actually :P

Thank you for the comment on my blog!

I think I've lost sight on this weightloss journey and forgotten that like bills/job/grown up dudties, health and fitness are a responsibility. It's my responsibiliy to keep my body healthy and fit because it is important. I think deep down I know its a my job, but I have not made it important.

Thank you for reminding me.

Hi and thank you for you comment on my blog it was very helpful. I am loving this lifestyle but like anything, I know that it will take time to reach the right balance. I was one of those people who would eat 5 - 6X's per day and got minimum results. Obsessing about food all day was really tiring, so it is refreshing to be able to follow a nutritional program that is more natural and in tune to what my body "signals" to me that it needs.

Again , thanks, and enjoy your day! ~ Dee emoticon
