Hello, I have been on an off on Sparkpeople since 2012. I have been on and off trying to lose weight since pretty much forever (age 12 or so). I am 34 now, and recently married. I am working to get back on a plan that I can stick to so that I can finally be healthy.

Currently honeymoon and reception planning and saving up to buy a house. Exciting times!

Fitness Minutes: 8,005

My Goals:
Get my asthma under control- doctor visited,5/8/16 taking medication, hopefully it starts working!
Get my migraines under control- doctor visited, 5/8/16 taking medication, hopefully it works; however, side effects are pretty harsh.
Start walking 3x a week
Start swimming again
Get better control of the eating situation -already doing better as of 6/9/16. portion sizes and binging much better!
Find a full time faculty position


My Program:
Starting 0 to 1500 swim program.
Walking 3x a week working up to 30 minutes
Hope to add Zumba
Limit all sugary drinks (including starbucks, soda or iced tea) to less than 1 per day -i've actually beaten this, it is more like one drink mainly a tall starbucks or a small iced tea every 3 days or so and over a month since any soda 6/9/16
Drink plenty of water - 6/9/16 on the ball with this one too!
Work on portion sizes
Eat more dairy



Personal Information:
Born and raised in the Chicago burbs. Undergraduate work in cell and structural biology at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. Worked at Rush University in Chicago as a clinical research coordinator for 2 years after college. Moved to DC to do my PhD at Georgetown University in tumor biology. Lived in Fort Collin, CO. for a year. Now, I am an adjunct professor at some Universities in Chicago teaching biology, nursing, and non-majors a number of biology courses including cell biology, microbiology, and pathophysiology.
I am a Chicagophile for life!


Other Information:
My hobbies include: singing, reading, playing video and board games, baking, and swimming.
I LOVE CATS.

    I'm so glad you are back!! I'm sorry to hear that you've gained the weight back but you're right I am failing right now as well and have gained most of what I lost last year myself. All but 10 pounds. So here I sit. I'm trying to reevaluate my program and my way of thinking to see if maybe there are some tweaks that will help me stick to the program for once. Zumba is great. I really enjoy it and it burns a ton of calories. I haven't done it in a few months but I'm planning on starting back up on Monday. I have Zumba for the Xbox One and do it on there. Classes can be really expensive but if you have a gaming system the game is well worth the price and you'll get way more use for the money compared to paying for classes. We can do this..I know we can..the fact we keep coming back to Spark means we haven't and won't give up.

    Thanks so much for the goodie :) I weighed in up today at 251.8 but I checked in mid week last week and was at 255.8 so I am highly impressed with the work I've done. I'm still not feeling 100% up to snuff but now that it's been 2 weeks worth of sick...it's time to stop babying myself and slowly (very slowly) get back into exercise and seriously track my food. Tomorrow my goal is to track EVERYTHING..hopefully in range but if not..as long as it's tracked I'll be happy! Let me know how your weigh in goes! Good luck!
