Hi SparkPals,

I'm here on SparkPeople to lessen my arthritis symptoms, by losing weight, and finding gentle ways to MOVE more.

I have three grandchildren, and I'm worried that my poor eating habits will prevent me from playing with them, going for walks, or even surviving long enough to see them mature and go through life's important steps.

They live in California, and I'm in Wisconsin, so I don't see them as often as I'd like. So any weight loss will certainly show up, when we are together.

Thank you to DROSE who first told us about this wonderful website. I met DROSE on the Cricut.com website. A Cricut is a neat scrapbooking tool, used for cutting shapes and letters. I have been a rubber stamper (making greeting cards, and fabric stamping) for ten years, and now I've branched out into scrapbooking.

I play Bridge (poorly). I'm an internet junkie, and I belong to a book discussion group at my local library. My husband and I have been married 42 years and we're from the Chicago area. I am a member of the Pogo.com game website. You'll find me playing Texas Holdem' there, as well as Tri peaks Solitare and whatever the challenges of the week are.

We live in a wonderful condo / townhouse neighborhood, where folks are friendly and helpful. The common areas include a beach, boat dock, and swimming pool. Also a tennis court, (which is not on my goal list.) We do live next door to a 400 acre forest preserve, which will get more of my attention as I battle this bulge. The swimming pool is only open in the summer, darnit.

One of our favorite activites is escaping the Wisconsin winter weather by taking cruises to the Caribbean. We've done it twice, and my lottery dream is to cruise several more times. I don't gain weight while cruising, because while I eat more, I also move more on vacation.

I have family in Chicago. Las Vegas, the San Diego area, and North Carolina, so you may find me there too, occasionally.

Frank is a private pilot, pheasant hunter, and restaurant equipment salesman. He expects to retire this year. We met in 1962, working together at a bank in downtown Chicago. I spent many years working for an Illinois school district.
We are blessed with two grown daughters, a super son in law, and three energetic grandchildren.

My Goals:
I'd love to be able to participate in all the activites being planned by my family and friends.

I'd love to be able to move quicker, and build my walking stamina.

Another of my goals is to recover quickly from my fourth kneescope, which was done in February. I'm sure losing some weight will do my knees a world of good.

My Program:
I'm taking baby steps so far, changing my habits, eating smaller portions. Just paying attention to what I reach for, has opened my eyes to some bad long-term habits.

I'm so glad to receive support from some of the groups here on Spark. It's nice to find such honest and intelligent people working together.

Other Information:
My favorite movies are from Director John Sayles, with "Lone Star" leading the pack.

Quotes- "Say what you mean, mean what you say."

One book I would recommend is "Prodigal Summer" by Barbara Kingsolver. (forget the Poisonwood Bible)

Also- " My SIster's Keeper", about a teen who is expected to donate a kidney to her sister. It gives you a lot of ethics to think about. The author is Jodi Picoult

For escape- it's Dean Koontz novels, especially the Odd Thomas trilogy. Odd has become my favorite literary character.

Hi Judi, Thank you for commenting on my status. It would be much too dangerous to have anybody crawling around on our icy roof. Our grandson fell off HIS roof 3xs, trying to clean it off. He landed in soft snow so wasn't injured. But the liability of someone going up there is too great. We would never ASK any of our family to do it. If one of them offers, I'd jump at the chance to get it cleaned off

"Beautiful Woman Award! Once you've been given this award, you have to paste it on the wall of 8 women who deserve it. If you receive more than 3, you know you're really beautiful! If you break the chain, nothing will happen, but it's always good to know someone thinks you're beautiful inside and out"
