It's already been a great journey

Hi,
I've been with sparkpeople since June '08. I have since then created a passion for running and participating in races from 5Ks to Marathons. I BQ'd for the 1st time November 2011 in Richmond and finished the 2013 Boston Marathon about 14 min before the bombings occurred. The following basically is the initial description of when I first joined:

The following basically is the initial description of when I first joined:

I'm a high school teacher and coach who was widening my waistline over the years supported by denial. It was time to take charge and not let obstacles (like time, RA) interfere with what I needed to do.
Years ago, fitness was easy by sports/military even with an unconstrained diet. I discovered age and RA has a way of changing that. I guess it was time to grow up:-)

Since joining Sparkpeople I have lost weight, gotten healthier, and learned a lot about health, fitness and balance. BTW, I love learning.

Now in 2013, I've been married for 27 yrs (ZOE1958) and we have 3 children -boys ages 25, 25 & my princess is 19.

I ran across your comment on RUNNINGMOMMA35's page about running Boston, and just read your amazing blog. Wow! I can't even imagine an experience like that, so thank you very much for posting. I'm not a runner (at least for now), but I am addicted to insane workouts. Congratulations on finishing an historic race, and thank you also for your service to our country!

Alan, I just found your blog and THANK YOU for writing it. What an experience! You have got to have so many emotions rolled up into one package with everything that evolved that day. Congratulations on this momentous race!!!

Me. I am running the Illinois Marathon Saturday for marathon #4. I can hardly believe that! I find the distance not that scary so I just go out and enjoy. I have learned a wealth of info firsthand since last September at Air Force...my first.

Here's to many more races ahead for both of us!!

Thank you for your comment. I will have to read your blog. I will have to blog about it. However, I am really struggling with the after effects, so it might not be for a little while. I had finished about 20 minutes prior to the bombs going off, so I was waiting in the family meeting area, at W, for my husband so I wasn't near the finish line.

(Sorry if you got this twice, to much on my mind, apparently)
