Hi Shona Welcome to this group and all the benefits that it has. I to became overweight for me when I retired. I think it was the combination of becoming a Widow going on HRT. I was for a time feeling very sorry for myself so I indulged. I went up 2 dress sizes and fast approaching 3. I went from 50 kgs to 74kgs. That was a huge step for my body. I then started to pay for the weight gain as my body shreaked in pain. I couldn' wear any of my shoes as the balls of my feet were so painful etc.So no way was I going to look good when I went out. My children demanded I have a cholesterol blood test as they don't want to loose me yet. That blood result was a big shock cholesterol too high, blood sugars not good, kidneys not good, blood pressure eratic. The Dr gave me a nasty talk. told me to loose weight, get fitter etc. that was nearly 2 years ago now. Ok I havent lost all that weight but I have come down1.5 dress sizes. My blood results make the Dr smile now. I am so much fitter and I can wearshoes again. My body is smiling at me also .
Please don't give up keep trying and inventing new ways to do so. In many ways it is a new learning curve for as as we age, that is not a bad thing keeps the brain agile. Talk to us all for we are here to help each other
