Hi! My name is Shirley, and I'm a graduate student studying childhood tumors. I joined spark last December (2010), but only really committed to it this summer. Over the last 2 years, I have somehow gained A LOT of weight (I still don't quite understand how it happened), so my primary goal here is to lose that weight and to feel healthy again! I've struggled throughout my life with being a larger person, but it's never been this bad before.

Over the last 2 years, I have somehow gained A LOT of weight (I still don't quite understand how it happened), so my primary goal here is to lose that weight and to feel healthy again! I've struggled throughout my life with being a larger person, but it's never been this bad before.

My approach right now is to do 60 minutes of cardio every day plus some strength training. And food tracking, of course. I definitely need some help in being held accountable to these goals, so if anyone is looking for an accountability partner, let me know!

I've been working on this since June and the weight loss hasn't really happened yet, but I am NOT giving up!! It's gotta be possible, right?

Update June 2013: Success over the last year!! Back down to a weight I'm more comfortable with, but still trying to keep going. The key for me has been lots of walking up hills and making my own lunches to take to work. Gonna keep trying to improve!

My Goals:
To become a healthy eater (allergy to fresh fruits and vegetables makes this challenging).

To become strong.

To feel good about myself.

My Program:
I'm starting out by increasing the time and energy level I spend walking and adding in some short cardio videos.

I'm also trying to make a point of tracking my food everyday.

I'm a sugar addict, so I'm also doing my best to eliminate as much unnecessary sugar as possible (which is difficult, because I LOVE ice cream)!

Personal Information:
My dog (a big black lab/rottie mix) is my workout buddy. He's great in the mornings, because he'll stand next to my bed and stare at me (with his head practically on my pillow) until I get up to go out for a nice energizing walk with him.

Don't worry about your weigh in this week. Hard work Always pays off. I had a couple of weeks like that a couple of months ago and now I have no motivation to do anything. Don't be like me!! You can do this! ^_^
