I am a retired RN who has had a serious weight problem most of my life. I am enjoying learning about this site and hope this will provide the SPARK that will finally get me to my goal.

My Goals:
I have a lot of weight to lose and want to drop 10 pounds a month, 2.5 pounds per week. My exercise consists of streches suggested by physical therapy for joint pain. As I lose weight I plan to become more active by using the exercise room at the Senior Center.


My Program:
I am reading all my e-mails from SparkPeople and getting much information and encouragement. I am trying to become familiar with all the tools available to me. I have had a loss the first week and want to keep it going.



Personal Information:
I am a 67 year old retired RN living in Oshkosh, WI. I know a lot about diet and nutrition, but am always willing to learn and open to new ideas. All the knowledge in the world won't do any good if you don't implement it. I am a dropout from many diet regimens, Weight Watchers, TOPS, OA, and have purchased many diet books. This is a new day.


Other Information:
A favorite quote[author unknown] is "Failure isn't falling down, it's staying there." I try to remember that when I think of all the times I have tried to lose weight. I am an avid reader, love mysteries, and read many self-help books. I greatly enjoy time with my family, especially my grandchildren. I have friends whom I get together with every Monday evening and play cards. I take a Spanish Class at the Senior Center until this week when I learned our teacher is ill. I will miss this and hope she can return. I love to cook and have been getting into whole grains, which my family do not enjoy. They always look pained when they are eating, and enjoying, and I say, "Guess what's in this."

    Hi. Good Luck this weekend :) hope you do good. Good Luck on your sodium too. It is in just about everything! Not just Deli meats.. Sauces, Canned Vegetables, dressings, bread, Cheese (Swiss usually doesn't have as much as others so its a good thing thats my fav) ect. Getting under 2000 is doable, I try to be 1500 or under. Well good luck and have a great weekend!

    Welcome to SparkPeople Shirlrn.......and good luck with your goals. You and I have a lot in common size wise........i was 346 when I started on this journey in May. I started out by myself trying to use a High Fiber / Low Fat / Lower Calorie diet. It's been 4 months since I started that and I've lost about 42 pounds. My roommate (who is bigger than either of us) has sort of half way jumpped on the band wagon with me but my daughter who only lives with us part time while she is in college does not like alot food we have gotten used to eating around here........so anyways to make a long story short I know where you are coming from. If you need an ear let me know.
