Laughter burns calories

We control how we respond to life. You choose to appreciate what you have and sail forward or you focus on what is behind and drown. I am a realist who has decided that for the rest of my journey, I am going to enjoy all the humor life has to offer. Because the world has gone nuts. I believe positive people bring a little sanity into this CRAZY world. And the only antidote for the madness, is to have some good laughs along the way.

Got a wake up call when I hit a high of 285 in Nov 2007. OMG! Years of DENIAL suddenly caught up. I panicked, went on an ultra strict diet, immediately took off 35 pounds, and stopped being scared. Things went back to ‘normal’ and I had false sense of security. …… I stayed there for a 2 years.

The reality is that I remained OBESE and the danger is very much, STILL THERE lurking quietly. So the intelligent part of me knows that this is not acceptable. I need to change my lifestyle and my attitude towards myself. Staying where I am is not an option.

Balance is everything. Spark keeps me honest. The nutrition journal keeps me real. And you could not ask for a more supportive community of people.

Over the last 3 years I've struggled to lose and hit long plateaus that would have previously seen me quit trying. With the help of my Spark friends I managed to hang in there. Having a slower metabolism didn't help, but I tried to stay the course. I went with the traditional balanced diet and ate around 1200-1300 cal/a day, but I saw my progress stall and stop. I went to eating lots more veggies with beans and brown/parboiled rice..but the progress was still painfully slow. I finally decided to try low-carb...NO STARCHES/NO SUGAR...and it's working again. I eat more non-starchy veggies than ever, and I am loving it. When something stops working ... don't just stay with the same old strategy....use common sense. Do a little research and find what works for you.

I’m keeping it REAL. This isn't a drag race; It's a journey to good health. It's all about learning how to LIVE RIGHT. My ultimate goal is obvious, the normal weight range. But I'm also setting small doable goals with a timetable, along the way. I've got to go down to 210 just to be considered OVERWEIGHT. So I'm setting milestone goals and taking it one step at a time.

This is MY 'change of life'.

You hit on the one thing I wondered about myself...vinegar?? Wanted to do some research on that myself because I love vinegar especially balsamic.

I totally agree about the wheat nd processed foods. I'm not sure about the beans and rice but I tend to lean more toward primal than paleo and primal is less strict. I like beans and would like to eat them at least occasionally. The same with whole grain brown long cooking rice.

You are going to become Korean soon. LOL.

The kimchi sounds good! I think I would like it as I like pickled veggies though I'm not sure about year old cabbage either. LOL.
