The journey has been long with lots of breaks along the way but the end is now in sight. I'm 5'3" and I started, once upon a time, weighing almost 160. Elastic waistbands were my friend. I didn't know what the inside of a gym looked like.

One day in January 2001, I sat behind my desk at work, huffing and puffing after climbing only TWO flights of stairs to get to my office. I decided enough was enough. I made a New Year's resolution to ditch my sugary coffee at work and drink water all day instead and joined a local gym with one of my co-workers. We started off easy. Every day at lunch time, we walked at a slow-to-moderate pace on the treadmills. When I started feeling better, I started going to the gym twice a day. I rode the stationary bike in the morning and walked at lunchtime. After doing that for a while, I joined a kickboxing class. My weight started to come down until I was just under 150.

At that time, I met the man who is now my husband. He is very athletic, so I started doing a little weight training with him. I also paid a little more attention to what I was eating and by the time we started talking marriage in 2003, I was down to 143.

At that point, my weight loss stalled. I tried everything I thought was the right thing to do. For months, I worked out like crazy and practically starved myself, yet the needle on the scale never moved. After a particularly grueling workout, I found myself crying my eyes out in my shower and yelling at God to give me an answer. And just like that, I got my answer. I got out of the shower and, still dripping wet in my towel, I got online, found the WW website, and signed up for meetings in my area.

From there, things got so much easier. I got to my goal weight (130 which is the high end of my healthy range) within a few months. I had a few setbacks, but I never doubted that I could do it and that WW was the right choice. I don't know if it was inspiration or what because I had no experience with WW and didn't know anyone who had been on it. I don't know where I got the idea but I think maybe He gave me the answer I was looking for.

I am currently a few pounds above my WW goal weight and 17 pounds from my final goal weight. The scale is still important to me but I would also like less than my current 30" waist, I'd like to be able to run 10 miles, I'd like to reduce my tummy, thighs, and butt, and I'd love to build some nice muscle tone in my arms and back. I wanted to lose more back in 2005 but I just stopped working at it. The break is over!

I'm now in the final showdown and ready to be in the best shape of my life. I don't have much weight left to lose but these last pounds seem to be the toughest. When I run, I like to think of the beginning of an LL Cool J song that goes, "Don't call it a comeback...I been here for years...." I'm ready to knock these last pounds out...who's with me!?!

Complete the Race for the Cure 5k in October in under 30 minutes and the Ford Island Bridge Run 10k in April in under an hour. The lowest healthy weight for my height is 109.


My Program:
I follow the WW Flex program. I have been a WW Lifetime member for 5 years. I try to run 4 times per week, 3-6 miles each. On the other days, I do alternate cardio workouts (swimming, walking) and 30 Day Shred.



Personal Information:
I'm originally from Wisconsin. There are many people with weight-related health problems in my family but I have learned that the only thing I inherited was my eating and activity habits. When I adopted a healthier lifestyle, I broke the cycle!


Other Information:
Everything in moderation. Drink wine, enjoy fine foods, indulge in some chocolate. Just remember to balance it out with the fun of a hike, an early morning run, some fruits and veggies, and lots of water!
