Turning 40 this year! Eeeek!

I am turning 40 this year, which is a huge motivator for me. My family medical history is poor to say the least and it all starts just after 40 years old. This is something I hope to avoid by losing weight, getting in shape and just get all over healthier by exercise and proper nutrition.
I, like many on here, have been on diets on and off for years now. This time will be different .. I am NOT dieting!!

My Goals:
I WILL work out 5 days per week.
I WILL keep setting and focus on monthly mini-goals instead just focusing of one huge goal. (one step at a time).
I WILL drink 8-10 glasses of water per day.

My Program:
I am trying to monitor my calories and nutrients and eat more fresh fruit and veggies. I am trying to get better at eating a more balanced meal. I try to get moving and do something active everyday, even if it might just be cleaning the house.

Personal Information:
I grew up in Michigan but now live in Arizona, which is great for me to be able to stay active outdoors. I hate snow, ice and freezing cold, I would stay hibernating as much as possible in the winter when in MI.

Other Information:
I started eating vegetarian in the middle of October of 2007. Since then I have been learning so much about nutrition and how badly I (and my family) had been eating before.

Yes, yes, yes,,, sometimes I agree,,, the emotional eating becomes like an addiction,,,,,, and it is something to be aware of and to beat!

Congratulations on your BIRTHDAY!!!! Look girly,,,, the 40's are the best! Take it from me,,, been there,,,,,,, so to me,,, you are still very young...... it is all just a number...... I am in my early 50s and really struggled with that birthday but at the end of the day,,, it is just a number. ..... I am also fortunate because I have my mother's great skin... but I wish I would have taken more action on watching my weight when I was in my 40's ... so you are way ahead of the game !

OK,,,,,, I am watching you emoticon .... 4 pounds this month... we will do it!

Hey Sherry! Thanks for checking in on me! I'm still doing well. Hit the 20 lb mark!! I remember when you first emailed me, you were down 21 lbs, and I thought "Yeah, right - like I could do that." :) And here I am!! Thanks for all your encouraging messages and for cheering me on. I'm heading to Vegas this wknd and plan on going off plan for a meal or 2, but will start full fledge upon returning. I figure this is okay, because 'What happens in Vegas....' ;) Hope your summer is going well! emoticon

WOW Sherry,,,,,,, you hit the nail right on the head,,,,,,,,,,, WE need to be a PRIORITY in our own lives,,,,, that is really deep........ if I look at it that way,,, it makes sense,,,,,,, I have gotten where I am by putting myself last,,, by putting the needs of others first,,,, I need to be a priority in my own life......Your comment really made me take a look at why I am doing this at all,,,,,,, I don't want to quit and start over again,,,,,,, that sucks! and it makes me feel like a failure,,, no,,, not this time,,,,,,,,, thank you for your thought provoking comment my friend,,,, I think that is what I needed to get myself back on track,,,,, thank you! emoticon emoticon


PS. I am sorry that you are going through a stressful time,,,, having to deal with a loved one who is ill,,, is so tough,,,, your family will be in my thoughts and prayers emoticon
