Hi. I am Sherry, and I weigh way too much. I started Spark people weighing 186 and am thrilled with losing 12 pounds this past month. I joined Sparkpeople because I felt so out of control. Sometimes I just felt lost. I feel so fortunate that I came across this wonderful site while looking at Realage site after watching the Dr. Oz show in January.
Anyway, I lost my way last January when my mom and my 12 year old daughter both were hospitalized. My mom went to therapy at a nursing home and just hated it there. She was use to me taking care of herand cooking for her. I planned to take her home but then went in for an emergency gallbladder surgery. I went home in aweek and the next week my mom came home to live with us. She use to live around the corner and I was there 3 or more times a day so it was actually easier to have her here.
My mom and daughter had both lost their appetites and I would cook anything to get some calories in them. Ofcourse, the rest of us ate it too. I however, am short and female and gained about 55 pounds. My boys and husband did not. I quit running and walking,found the couch and stayed home to take care of everyone. I did not go to the gym, the store or church.
On September 4,2009, my Mom went to heaven. I silently fell apart. I ate myself silly with no thought of the consequences. I again was responsible for everything. My two brothers --one in Iraqand the other a druggie were useless. Thank God for my husband and my three kids. They have been my rocks and have done more than I ever dreamed they would without complaint.
Then, in January, after my brother headed back to Iraq, and my older son(20) headed back to college, my husband went to work , and I had time to look myself in the mirror. Wow. I was just fat and so out of shape. So, I ended up here. I understand I have no excuses. I am also so thankful for all you sparks and your encouragement. I just love

    Wow - as others have said, thanks for sharing. I identify with your story - I'm short, fat, and was taking care of everybody else for so long that I forgot to take care of myself! I'm so glad to see how well you've done based on your ticker & I hope to see myself there some day too!

    HI. Thanks for sharing. A lot of it could have been my story. I am also only about 5'2" and at least 40 pounds overweight. One of my problems is that I am 75 years old and a lot of the exercises are to vigorous for me.
    I was on the spark plan a few years ago but couldn't recover my plan so I rejoined using a different pass world I am enjoying it . Have only been on a short time and need all of the encouragement I can get. Keep up the good work!!! emoticon
