Returned in 2016 to what I know works. This is how I answered questions for Fitness Club Member of the Month:
Here are your questions for member of the month....not too hard.

Why do you workout? TO TAKE MY LIFE BACK!. I have been a gym member for years but was one of those members who joined and then stopped using it. After breaking my foot last spring and not being able to get around on crutches I had gained a lot of weight. In December I was asked to be on a biggest loser team through Spencer Chiropractic and Wellness Center and my boss mentioned to someone he wished I would quit smoking too. I love a challenge (and have been known to be a little competitive) so I tackled both.

Who and/or what keeps you motivated The lab results from my doctor’s saying my vitals and cholesterol are normal. I’m normal! Woo Hoo. Being able to bend over and tie my shoes without taking a chair  Being able to do fun adventures with my grandchildren including an upcoming mountain climb in August at Colorado with the grandsons. Running into someone who hasn’t seen me since I dropped the 70 pounds and seeing their expressions.

What is your favorite thing about/part of Anytime Fitness? The other gym members at Anytime Fitness who have become my fitness family. Laura and Teresa who encouraged me to go to Holly’s Circuit City class even when I thought I wasn’t ready and continue to encourage me to do that one more rep. Holly for giving me alternatives when I first needed them in the classes so I didn’t quit. Love Love Love Holly’s knowledge and her classes. Just when I think I am where I need to be and can keep up with her demands she raises the bar . Ann and Crystal who have become my younger workout buddies. Random members who give me great advice to step it up a notch. The encouragement I get from Darby and her advice not to be so hard on myself when I cry on her shoulder. I also love the online tools Anytime Fitness has.

What is the best advice you could give someone that has given up on fitness or is reluctant to get started? Make it a fun puzzle every day. Put those pieces you need all together. Plan your nutrition and your exercise daily. Pack your gym bag in the morning and your healthy lunch and snacks and go to the gym after work instead of home to your couch. Do not use fast food for your primary source of nutrition! It only takes a week to start a new habit and you can watch Bing Bang Theory on the treadmill, elliptical or bike at Anytime Fitness as well as you can your couch! It’s never too late to start and don’t let anyone in your life tell you otherwise.

I live in Spencer, Iowa. I have 4 children scattered around the country and 5 beautiful grandchildren.


Other Information:
Love to read, play volleyball, play tennis and entertain friends and family. I moved back to Iowa where I grew up a few years ago which correlates with my weight gain...hmmmm. Something to ponder.
