Hi...from sunny Jamaica

I'm new to this site...and am enjoying the warm welcome I have received so far. I hope I will finally be able to lose the 17 pounds I have been trying to lose for many years without success...despite all that I do....so I desperately need HELP!!!
I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure since 1994 and both parents have the whole package [hbp, diabetes, high cholesterol, and at least 1 heart attack] so I am doing my best not to or at least delay being afflicted with any of the ...

My Goals:
My aim is to lose 17 lbs. and maintain that weight, lower my bp, delay any other lifestyle diseases as well as continue with the healthy lifestyle which has become so much a part of my life.

Well, it's June 2010...and I have exceeded my goal. I lost 20lbs since I signed up in Feb. 2009....wonderful birthday gift to self!!!

So I am now in weight maintenace mode and encouraging others who may fall along the way!!

My Program:
Since signing up with Sparkpeople, it has encouraged me to test out a few healthy recipes, change my life to one which is much healthier and, although I always walked, I am so much more focused on looking at how I walk with a view to surpassing my set goals...which I have done.

Other Information:
I enjoy cooking and baking and would certainly welcome any healthy recipes. Enjoy reading [whenever I can], curling up and watching a good movie, going to the theatre or just hanging out with friends on one of our lovely beaches. Apart from that, I also do charity work for 3 charitable organizations and enjoy it immensely!!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I've been procrastinating a bit. The weather has been lousy, but it's supposed to be sunny this weekend. So perfect time to walk/jog around the neighborhood.
