Tomorrow is Today's Dream

I am in search of inspiration, adventure, and catalytic ideas. As a graduate student, currently conducting anthropological fieldwork in East Africa, I am fortunately able to pursue such aspirations in my daily life. Yet, one goal which remains elusive to me is being able to cultivate and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I find that being overweight often times keeps me from pursuing the very things I love, from embracing a life without reservation. Thus, I am here. Hoping to find the motivation ...

SHELL welcome to the Expat's team .. I am THRILLED .. absolutely THRILLED to finally have someone from East Africa join the team ;) WOO HOO !!!!

You will find it is a lovely & supportive group who is always there for each other. I know all about the challenges of living in East Africa and trying to eat healthily here/lose weight. (Low fat ? Non existent ! Fat Free ? Ditto !) It is also hard to try & diet when so many around you are starving & don't have enough to eat ... ohhh losing weight has so many challenges here. Having said that, there are more healthy alternatives available in the Kenyan supermarkets than the Tanzanian ones, & in both countries we are lucky to have such lovely and abundant (not to mention cheap !) fruit & veggies.

I'd love to hear more about your time spent here & the work you are doing in Kenya. I live on a remote farm in the foothills of Kilimanjaro, & keep a daily blog of my life on the farm www.foodfunfarm.blogspot.com which will tell you a little more about me & my life here. I am a white African, born in Zimbabwe & have also lived in South Africa but have been in Tanzania since 1998 !

Once again, a very warm welcome "Karibu" !

I hope that you will allow me to return to your page often so that I can be of motivation and support for you! You have definitely come far in life, I mean how many people can say they study as a graduate student aboard! Well, how many people can say they are a graduate student! Not many! You've put the hard work in your educational efforts; you can put in the hard work for your health!!! Stay motivated, remember all that you have accomplished and then look forward to future accomplishments you will make!! You can do it!!!;) Lisa

Hiya. Things have been crazy here on my end as well. My last day of work is on Thursday so the office is taking me out to lunch on Wednesday afternoon. We're going to a brewpub kind of place and I'm planning on having a salad :) Unfortunately I was a bit naughty over the weekend....it's hard to say no to Butterfinger ice cream! But I fully intend to make up for it this week and upcoming weekend. The hubby and I are going to the Braves-Brewers game in ATL on Saturday. He suggested sitting in the "All You Can Eat" seats, but I put a quick end to that!
Here's to a good upcoming week & lots of positive thoughts your way! emoticon
