UPDATE: I have finished chemo and am cancer free! I now have 20 pounds to lose that I gained during my chemo treatments, thanks to steroids. I have lost 6 of those pounds so far as I write this. My hair is also coming back and I'm feeling much better!
EDIT: Yes that's right, I now have cancer. I was diagnosed 2 months ago. My prognosis is very good for recovery but suddenly weight loss is pretty much at the bottom of my importance scale. I'm going through chemo (check out my new bald picture) and hopefully will beat this thing soon. I joked with my doctor maybe I could finally lose the rest of my weight on chemo but he was so serious about not trying to lose weight during chemo. So I took him at his word and gained back 15 pounds!

Hello, my name is Shaun and i'm an Ohio State and Dallas Cowboys fanatic. I'm 40 years old and currently living in Columbus, Ohio. I have lost over 60 pounds since I found Sparkpeople with about 30 pounds or so more to go. Since I have started Sparkpeople I have eliminated my pre-diabetes status, got off my blood pressure medicine and cut my cholesterol from 240 to 160 among other positive changes in my health.
I'm told I'm an intellectual, a deep thinker, a polarizing figure and many other names at times unfit to print (LOL!). I sincerely dislike phonies, most liberals, the close minded and small people. No, not short or little people but rather people who are timid, unsure of themselves and afraid to voice their opinions for fear of offending. I'm a member of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) which is simliar to Weight Watchers but much better (check them out at www.tops.org) and I'd strongly recommend you reach out to your local chapter as they have been a great inspiration to me!
I am always eager to hear other's viewpoints and always open to change my own but I never apologize for holding an unpopular opinion simply to "fit in". Speak your mind, believe in what you say and be willing to back it up is my motto. Visit the website

My primary goal is to now, having beat cancer, resume my fight to get to a healthy weight!
I currently workout 3 to 4 times a week for about an hour a day. I do weighlifting and cardio both.
As for my diet, I am on the lifestyle change, not a specific "fad" diet as those DO NOT WORK. II stay below 1500 calories, eating fruit, vegetables and lean meats.
I do not disallow any foods either as I feel that is a recipe for disaster, however some foods I mostly avoid if I can.
Lastly, I'm an active member of TOPS (www.tops.org) and you should be too!
I'm from Cambridge, Ohio, a small city in Southeastern Ohio. I lived in Columbus Ohio for about 5 years, then moved to Austin, Texas for close to 4 years. I then lived in Richmond, Virginia and work for a wireless company named Suncom. After I was laid off there I moved back to Columbus and now work for Verizon Wireless as a transport engineer.
BTW: Obama is the a terrible President.

I am a fairly good artist as well as a fairly good writer, two talents I have not cultivated much since college. I attended Ohio U, not OSU (but living in Ohio it's all about the Bucks baby!)

I've been away from the community for a while myself... trying to get back into things. I have a plan to re-educate myself regarding eating habits while I'm doing the Master Cleanse. I"m going to make a valliant effort to kick my bad eating habits so I can get healthier and not feel like crap all the time! :)

Thats great your still losing even if it is slooow going. I to have been impatient with my own weight loss. The past two years I felt that I should have lost more than 55lbs with all the exercise and hard work Ive put into it. So I can relate a little to what you are telling me.
I think its great that you have been consistant and persistant in you lifestyle change. I think that is what is going to pay off in the long run.
I know what you mean about the alcohol. Im not a beer drinker but I did put some weight back on this summer partying too much at the campground on the weekends by taking weekends off. Partying and eating whatever I wanted. Well, it caught up with me by the beginning of September. So Ive have cut out my visits to Margaritaville (atleast for the next twelve weeks)!!!! I did join a weightloss challenge about three weeks ago at our local gym that has helped motivate me. I am determined to win. So far so good. We'll see what happens.

Hey Penny, thanks for your comment! I'm still doing well, i'm losing weight still but sLOoOoowly. I've been losing about a pound a month for the last 2 years is how I calculated it here recently. It's somewhat frustrating but at least I take comfort in knowing that the slower you lose it the less apt it is to come back.
Right now i'm pretty much on the 6 days a week eat healthy, on Saturday I eat whatever I like. I work out 4 to 5 times a week and meet with a personal trainer once a week on Wednesdays at noon. So i'm still trying really hard but in more of an everyday lifestyle as opposed to the big burst you get when you first get started.
My biggest struggle is beer, wings and pizza. I don't really like sweets so that's not an issue. I tend to snack a little more than I should, although I usually snack on the foods i'm supposed to. So it's like an alcoholic I guess, one day at a time!
