A new & healthier me - take 2

I have a positive attitude through everything that has happened in my life. Yes it sucks and I'm miserable and I cry but there is only so long you can feel sorry for yourself and it's time to dig your way out and find the positives in the situation.

I had a stroke on December 15, 2009 and recovered and was back to work after a year. When I came back to work In Feb. 2011 weighed 132 pounds and presently I am up to 152. I am trying not to get back to the weight before the stroke ...

I had a stroke on December 15, 2009 and recovered and was back to work after a year. When I came back to work In Feb. 2011 weighed 132 pounds and presently I am up to 152. I am trying not to get back to the weight before the stroke (162) so here I am trying to get on track so that I can lose the weight. BTW the positive things that came out of my stroke were:

1. I'm alive

2. I was lying on the floor for 9 hours before they found be and was paralized on the right side of my body, I couldn't speak read or write and I can do just about everything as well as I did before. My right hand I have to pay attention to, sometimes, when I'm holding things.

3. We found that I have a congenital atrial defect (hole) in my heart, which could have caused a stroke later on in my life. I am now of blood thinners so that my blood doesn't clot. It didn't cause this stroke though. That was the result of medication I was taking that didn't mesh well (to put it lightly) with my migraines.

BTW I don't tell people to find the positives in their negative situations but I do tell them to take what they learned from the situation and move forward in their lives. Sometimes there is nothing to learn, it just sucks, but you should still move on from it.

I am trying to become a vegan (and mainly gluten free) since I have a food senstivity to Dairy and Eggs and wheat. I have also decided to cut meat out of my diet due to my cholesterol levels. They are fine now.

So wish me luck. I have the worst problem in the world when it comes to fitness. I'm lazy. I never used to be lazy so it was (at one time) easier for me to keep the weight off. So here's to the energetic me coming out of hiding! ;)

Hi Shari,

What a story of perseverance you have! Congratulations for taking control of your life. You have made me count my blessings. Sometimes I think there are people getting out of bed today that are healthy and happy, but this is the last day of their life. I know this sounds morbid. But it motivates me to try to live each day to the fullest.

Thanks, Bruce
