Hi. I'm here to try and get a bit healthier. A little about me. Before I became disabled, I worked as an EMT, and later as a teacher. Now, I'm a full-time writer. I write mostly romance under a pen name.

Hi. I'm here to try and get a bit healthier. A little about me. Before I became disabled, I worked as an EMT, and later as a teacher. Now, I'm a full-time writer. I write mostly romance under a pen name.

My health issues are varied, which seemed to help add on the pounds. ruptured discs cause severe pain, and I've only recently discovered walking actually helps my pain levels. I also have a neuro disorder that causes severe spasticity and muscle cramps. It's affected all muscles, including those used for breathing, so I use oxygen. As I'm at great risk of falls, I use a walker for exercise, and an electric scooter out and about in the world. I probably look silly walking down the road with my walker and 02 tank, but I don't care!

When I was able to fit into a size 13 pair of jeans for the first time in many, many years, I was over the moon! Still want to get down to about 130, but 150 is my current goal from the 205 I was at a year ago. Most of that has been lost in the last 4 months.

My high blood pressure has lessened in just a wek of doing more exercise, surprisingly.

My daughter says I'm overdoing it, as I developed a 5 inch bruise on my bicep from resistance band training. (we agreed to disagree, I blame it on the blood thinners) I'm required to take them after blood clots and a stroke.

I WILL get thinner and as healthy as I can if it kills me! I love Spark People! What a motivating site!

Just by eating differently and walking, I'm finally losing inches and pounds! At last, visible progress!

Personal Information:
I live in so-called Sunny Florida. Mostly, it's just hot and humid Florida, lol.

Other Information:
I've lived for the last ten years with rapidly declining health.

I finally realized I could give up and just let it eventually do me in, or fight to get as healthy as I can. Guess which I chose?

Hi Rose Sorry i havent checked back, but i have been busy taking care of my little dog. *( 15 yrs) she has gone to join the Angels friday. I feel so alone. I have gone from 245 lbs to 235 lbs since monday . I have not had that much to eat, I have been eating only because i have to It so hard to say goodbye to such a loyal friend. Later when I feel more myself Id like to talk to about your writing

Hi Rose you being a EMT you can relate to what i am going to tell you. When I finally got to where i could reach the phone and call 911. The ,fireman came. He asked when I fall how do I get up. I told him I try not to fall. So again he ask me do I get up when I do fall. I looked up into his handsome face and smiled and said " That's why I called you" emoticon emoticon

Hey, thanks for commenting on my message board post! Since then, I seem to have gotten the hang of it, and yes I have to eat fewer calories. I find that if I eat at exactly the lower limit of what SP says, the scale moves :-) Coming to your page, I noticed that you also have ruptured disk issues. I do too, and like you, I also just found out that walking helps!!! Amazing what the doctors never tell you.... now when my back acts up, I drop everything and go for a walk. Then I ice my back and then I go for another walk. and so on.... only thing that well help me from ending up spending weeks in bed. Thanks again for reaching out! Hope it helps some other folks in the future!!!

Wow - You TOTALLY read me on my blog. You're right about the teeth grinding - seems that no matter what sleep aid I take I never sleep well. I know in my head I can give myself permission to not be perfect, but I'm still not there. I DO, however, recognize it - so I guess that's the first step! I'm also learning to say no when needed- at least sometimes. Learning not to "feel" the feelings of others, though... just not there. Thanks so much for your words of encouragement and wisdom. I know life is a journey and I WILL continue to walk it with my head held high and holding happiness in my heart, even if I still carry a burden on my back. emoticon
