Hello Sparksters! Thank you for letting me join you, and thanks to my friend Moe for turning me on to SparkPeople.com. After 13 years of not so healthy living - who am I kidding, I've gotten less and less healthy as the last 13 years have gone by - my 50th birthday was a big wakeup call. In addition to not feeling strong, healthy, or agile, I also realized that my mother had her heart attack at age 55. Yikes! I'm not far from that age now, and I want to get strong and healthy again. So here I am, Ready, Set, and Going for it!

Fitness Minutes: 5,969

My Goals:
My long-term weight goal is to lose 40 pounds between June 2016 and March 2017, which is when I get my annual physical. That equates to about one pound per week for the next 10 months.

My nutrition goal is to overcome my binge eating and fast food runs. That means cooking more healthy and TASTY meals at home so I am not tempted to binge on unhealthy food or hit the drive through.

My physical activity goal is to exercise five days per week with a mix of strength, walking, and yoga. Plus stretching every evening which is my favorite exercise and very relaxing.

These lifestyle changes will help me outsmart my family's trend of high cholesterol, high BP, and heart disease. What more could I ask?


My Program:
PLANNING AHEAD is key for me to living healthy. Here's my exercise plan for the summer months:
Stretch every evening
10 minutes of strength training 4 times per week
Yoga 1 time per week
Walk 2 times per week
Gardening nearly every day fills in the rest of my time!

Here is my nutrition plan:
South Beach Diet Phase 1 whenever I need to overcome sugar/carbs binging.
South Beach Diet Phase 2 to reach my goal weight; this means lots of veggies, fruits, and whole grains, and beans for me as a mostly-vegetarian bean lover.
