I am Serene, a bi, poly, atheist poet and fatchick extraordinaire. I go back and forth between veganism and being omnivorous. I delete comments that state or imply that fat is bad or thin is good. This includes comments that congratulate me for weight loss. I understand that people think that's supportive, but it's not supportive to me, because I love my body as it is. There is no wrong way to have a body. I don't believe in being mean to myself, and I think hating one's body is mean.

I'm signed up for 2 challenge teams beginning in January: the Winter 5% Challenge, and BLC 24.

Winter 5% Challenge Exercise Commitment

Strength Training: 3 days a week (working on a push-up challenge; will also do team ST challenges for both my challenge teams)

Cardio: Total at least 60 minutes, 6 days a week. Take one weekend day off if desired. In addition, walk at least 12,000 total steps per day.

Winter 5% Challenge Diet Commitment:

Low-fat vegan, stay in nutrition-tracker ranges.

I am tracking my food today, and I'm making some promises to myself:

1) I will not be mean to myself
2) I will follow SP advice as best I can, but I will not be mean to myself.
3) I will track my food for at least 2 weeks, but I will not use the food tracker to be mean to myself

Sensing a theme here?

I'm a good person, a loving wife and mother, a successful worker, a good daughter, a skilled editor, and a person with a body that mostly does what I want it to. I refuse to be mean to myself. Wanting to treat my body better doesn't mean I suck. It means I want the benefits of treating my body better.

Okay, onward.

Hi, I'm Serene. I'm still figuring out how I'll use SparkPeople. I was on here for a long time and found myself sabotaging myself by doing too many challenges that weren't a good fit for me. Now I'm going to try to focus on doing what works for my body, and not burning myself out on the social aspects of the site. We'll see how it goes.

I'm down from 4 beta blockers and 1 hypertension pill to 1 beta blocker and ZERO hypertension pills (since October 2013). My next goal is to further reduce / eliminate those medications, with my doctor's guidance.

I think we take meaning from life. It is what our parents and teachers, relatives and friends share with us. The degree that we can make our own meaning is small in comparison to these other influences. It takes a village. Thanks for your response. Glenn

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my "Chef Boyar 'B'" Blog the other day! If you do try all the recipes or any of them, let me know how they turn out. As for coving or not coving the potatoes, it does change the texture. At least, usually when I leave potatoes uncovered, they get crispier, which is good too. Just experiment around with what you want and like! Hope you have a great week!
