Surviving Madness
I've struggled with my weight since adolescence. Although I have successfully lost weight a few times in the past I ultimately surrendered to the idea of being fat for the rest of my life... until one day a little SPARK ignited. I'm highly motivated and determined to succeed. I started this journey on 02/04/12 and weighed in at a whopping 276 pounds; the heaviest I've ever been! My dream goal is to be 135 pounds (half my starting weight). As a wife, ...
As a wife, {homeschooling} mom of 3 I literally teeter on the brink of insanity most days - I'm just trying to survive the madness that is me and my life! UPDATE: One year later and I've now lost 111 pounds (I'm currently 165). I'm in AMAZING shape physically (and drastically improved mentally, too). Don't ever give up on yourself - you are worth it!!!

My Goals:
ULTIMATE/DREAM Goal: 135 pounds (half my starting weight) Increase my HDL (good cholesterol) As of 03/25/12 my lipid panel results are as follows: Cholesterol 160 Triglyceride 155 HDL 31 LDL 98 My overall cholesterol is great but my HDL is far too low (for women it should be 50 or greater). My triglycerides could use a little improvement (ideal range is below 150 and I'm at 155) and my LDL is normal (but I'd like to see it go down a little more). I also decided I'd like to challenge myself to run a half marathon. I prefer running solo - so I intend to do this on my own and not as part of a race or anything.
My Program:
I'm currently following a modified version of the "old" Weight Watchers program. I've always liked WW as the program helps take the guesswork out of how many calories, etc... However, after years of really learning about weight loss, calories, fitness, etc... I find there are some drawbacks to WW and I've modified it accordingly. Since I hate counting calories - I still opt for "points" - however, I calculate points as follows: ~50 calories = 1 pt ~25 calories = 0.5 pt (If something is 10-15 calories then I won't typically count it as a half point - but if I have several "0" pt items then I will add it up and count it as a half or full point) So, if I have something that is 80 calories - I count it as 1.5 pts. This includes fruits and veggies... You'll notice I don't factor in fat or fiber and this applies to everything - including fruits/veggies. I eat very healthy - and I believe higher fat, but healthy foods such as avocado, nut
