Although I had started working to take better care of myself at the start of 2013 (and even before that, especially with what I was eating), learning that I had diabetes in June 2013 was like a wake-up call for me. Almost immediately, I went into trying to eat better, and I took up walking. Exercising has been like a godsend for me, especially walking. I want to get more disciplined in it, too. My goal is to continue what I've been doing since June 2013: make healthy moves in order to lose weight, get stronger, body slam this diabetes and high cholesterol, and stay here on earth a lot longer. I want the whole package - body, mind, and spirit - to be healthy, strong, and enduring.
Continue walking regimen, eventually do a 5k walk (and more after), continue ab/arm work, start yoga (a dear friend has been on me for a while about this one!)
WALKING is the major part of my program. I walk, pretty much, every day. I also do some strength training two to three times a week.
I am an author, doctoral candidate, editor, and educator. I write mysteries, women's fiction, faith-based fiction, and creative non-fiction. I'm a doctoral candidate in Texas Tech's Technical Communication & Rhetoric Ph.D. program. I'm in the analyze/write stage of my dissertation with goal of graduating in spring 2013. I've been an editor for going on 13 years. I teach mass communication courses as an instructor at a local university in Lake Charles, LA, where I currently live. I am a born and bred Baltimorean.
