Hi! I have had a hard time the past few years at focusing on my own health and well-being. I started back to work full time and was still doing all of the volunteering for my 3 kids as before (perhaps even more so). I suffered some losses of loved ones and have been through a lot of stress.
I am now trying to leave all that behind me - you know the serenity prayer : accept the things you can't change, change the things you can... - I am cutting back on the volunteering and my job is more stable, the kids, older. I need to prioritize taking care of myself and not just for a week or a few months, but for the rest of my life. But I need some help and support - my jouney begins now!

My Goals:
My main goal is to not be a fat 45 - working on diabetes and high blood pressure. Both parents have type 2 diabetes and I sincerely do not want to follow in their footsteps. I want to feel OK about going to the doctor and getting a check-up, not avoiding it because I'm fat. My mother is a breast cancer survivor and I need to get my mammo, but am avoiding it because of my weight. I intend to feel comfortable enought to see the doctor before my birthday in January!

My Program:
*25 g or more fiber/day

* 1 hour activity/day

*5-6 srvngs fruit/veg/day

*8 glasses H2O/day

*Avoid processed foods- white sugar, flour, corn syrup

* Get in some meditation

Personal Information:
* Married

*3 kids - Middle School, High School & College age

* Lots of pets

* Love to travel

*4th gr. science teacher

    Hi Scimama, I used to be active...really active on Sparkpeople last year....6 months ago!! And I remember you were one of the people that kept me going. Now I'm back and want to get back on track. Are you still motivated? I need someone to keep me accountable and was hoping that you would help me, like you had in the past?
    Hope to hear from you soon,

    Hi and thanks so much for your comment the other day when my sparkpage was in the spotlight. You know what - you're right - we ALL need to cut ourselves a little slack. It's too easy to get caught up in that beat-yourself-up mode. Thanks for the reminder and your supportive comments! Hugs, Lori

    Great job on your recent weight loss and keep it up!! Please feel free to contact me for support and encouragement. I love to give it as much as receive it!!

    Hi there! Thanks for the nice comment on my blog. Listen...please get that mammo, ASAP. Your kids need you. I am MUCH heavier than you are and go regularly and get this--the tech is a member of our there she is hefting my breast around for the test, and we wave to each other on Sunday. I'm the pastor's wife, so can't avoid it!! GRIN. Anyway my daughter is in the medical field and she tells me, seriously mom, medical people really don't care...they see so many whatevers. Our family doctor is also a friend of my daughter's so we see each other at a lot of family functions....ummm, I just put my past papsmear out of my mind...and say pass the potatoes please!
