It's been FOUR YEARS since I started SparkPeople and it's time for a reboot. I zeroed out my goal history and am starting fresh. I've left the "lost 25 pounds" graphic on my page because I am down 26 lbs. from when I started four years ago, but my weight loss goal and ticker are starting where I am today.
January 2, 2011 -
Three years. !?!? It is hard to believe, but today is my three year anniversary on SparkPeople. I really do believe in the value of this site and while I will be unplugging my life when and where I can in 2011, I am staying connected here!
I've recalibrated my weight loss tracker to show only my 2011 goal. I'm still 16 pounds lighter than when I started SP three years ago and 100 pounds down from my highest weight in 2001.

Ah, spring is here! I feel like I've been hibernating all winter and I'm grateful the opportunity to spend active time outside in the sun is back. I've restarted the Couch to 5K program and will run my next 5K the weekend before my birthday in late May. I can't wait!

2010 is my year. It's the year I will fit all the pieces of the puzzle together. My life will fire on all cylinders which will provide balance, well-being and contentment. I have so many blessings in my life, it's time to recognize them for what they are, nurture my strengths, embrace my weaknesses and be the best me I can be.

I've been radio silent on this page for way too long. I let 2009 get the better of me, rather than making this the Year of Sarah. But it's never too late to reclaim 'living fine', so I'm doing just that!

Yeah, corny page title but I just sat here for five minutes trying to think of something to replace my 2008 title and this is the best I could come up with.
I've left my previous page updates below so you can see my Spark progression over the last year. I can't believe it's been a year since I joined SparkPeople. I feel like I should make some sweeping summaries of 2008 and reflect on all I have lost (over 50 pounds) and gained (appreciation for Zumba and running, my first 5K medal). I might eventually get to that, but for now, I'm spending my free time being active, planning healthy meals and being the best me I can be.

After letting myself go (a little bit literally, a lot figuratively) in the last year or so, I'm ready to get back to being healthy and active.
In 2001, I changed my mindset, changed my diet, made exercise and activity a part of my life and lost 100 pounds and maintained that loss for a number of years. But at the end of 2007, I was 31 pounds over my previous low weight, using food for things other than fuel and sustenance and letting my stressful, time consuming job keep me sedentary and give me excuses for poor food decisions.
I've started this year recommitted to my health and well-being and am loving every minute of it. Seven years ago, I wrote down my food, weight and exercise in notebooks - now, I do that with SparkPeople and get so much more! I really enjoy the articles, the recipes and all the food for thought I get from the site. Making it part of my daily life really helps me prioritize my health and keep it top of mind throughout my day.
I'm really looking forward to the journey and having SparkPeople be a part of it.

It's time I updated this! I'm leaving my original intro text above and adding to my story. After four and a half months, I've lost 33.5 pounds, dropped from a womens size 16 to a misses 12, I'm exercising for at least 30 minutes at least four times a week and adding (gasp) jogging to my walks. And I have SparkPeople - and all of you! - to thank for helping me on my journey.
At the beginning of the year, I was just looking for a way to track my food intake online. After a friend recommended SparkPeople, I found that but so much more! I'm now using the fitness tracker, reading articles, participating in teams, posting on the message boards and challenging myself to do more. That last part is the most important. I've never been much of a goal setter. Even the first time I lost weight, I didn't have a goal weight - I just wanted the outside of me to match what was inside. But SparkPeople helped me set an overall goal and then smaller mini-goals along the way to challenge me, get me moving and keep me on track. By setting and achieving those smaller goals, I don't have to focus on an overwhelming larger goal - it will take care of itself as I find success on my journey. As a result, I'm more than half way to my overall goal (a healthy BMI) with the energy and inspiration needed to make it all the way!

To be healthy, happy and active. Specifically, to be at a 'healthy' BMI for the first time in my adult life, to look forward to exercise and physical activities, and to use food as fuel for my body and nothing else.
I'm eating a healthy diet with a range of foods, targeting 1,500 calories/day. That's approximately my basal metabolic rate - the number of calories my body burns each day with no activity. So any additional movement puts my body at a calorie deficit and I lose weight. I love SparkPeople's food tracker because it provides so much information. I'm working on further tweaking my diet to maximize fiber and protein and minimize sodium and carbs. I attribute my success to accommodating 'empty' calories in my diet a few days a week. If I can't have a few cookies, chocolate, alcohol or something similar when I want it, I would have veered off track long ago!
I'm 41 and married to my best friend. We have two cats, a great house, wonderful families and a lot of fun together.
9/8/08 - Started the Couch to 5K program.
11/9/08 - Completed C25K program!
3/20/10 - Started C25K program again!
5/22/10 - Completed C25K program again!
