My name is Sarah Jean, and since January 1st, 2011, I have lost a total of 90 lbs. Unfortunately, toward the end of 2011, I slid back on my eating habits, and with the holidays, I managed to gain back a few inches and about 15 of those lbs lost. After 22 years of obesity, I have grown enough in the past 12 months to know that I will NEVER go back to the way I was. So, starting this morning (January 1st, 2012), I have vowed to make 2012 not only a year of permanency, but a year of devotion as ...
So, starting this morning (January 1st, 2012), I have vowed to make 2012 not only a year of permanency, but a year of devotion as well as forgiveness. It's not all about reaching that "goal weight." No, this year I will plan to sculpt my body to the healthiest of its ability, regardless of what weight that leaves me. I will run a half marathon in May and the BIX 7 in July, and I will be a shining example for others and, most importantly, myself.
Won't you join me? :)
A little about me and my journey thus far:
I have lost an ovary.
I have shattered my legs.
I am Obsessive/Compulsive.
I have gorged on pizzas and ice cream and beef jerky and lived the life of an insipid pessimist waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Yet, these things DO NOT DEFINE ME. A metal rod in my leg will not prevent me from running--if anything, I will run that much farther. I am beautiful because of my experiences, not in spite of them.
I'm not going to lie. Life is a struggle. But I know by the end of this journey that I will have the courage to thrash, pull, and fight back against that struggle with every inch of my body and all of my womanly might. I will never go back to the way I was. I will NEVER surrender to the FatGirl within me who savagely preys on my self-esteem like a starved coyote. I am beautiful, curvy, funny, and full of life, and I will push to celebrate these positives each and every day! Oh, and while I'm at it, I might admire the new shape of my bum, too. ;)

Managing my caloric intake: as of February 8th, 2012, I am ranging 1,250 to 1,600 calories a day, though I try to stay on the low side on days I do not exercise or strength train. I focus on complex carbs, less than 10g of saturated fat a day, and I monitor my protein, sodium, calorie, fiber, cholesterol, and fat intake.
I'm from the American midwest, born and raised in Illinois. I'm a college student, and I'm looking for spark friends! If you're in the area of Moline or Joliet, I'd love to get to know you! The more the merrier. :)
The Holstee Manifesto, 2009:
This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often. If you don't like something, change it. If you don't like your job, quit. If you don't have enough time, stop watching TV. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop; they will be waiting for you when you start doing the things you love. Stop over-analyzing, life is simple. All emotions are beautiful. When you eat, appreciate every last bite. Open your mind, arms, and heart to new things and people, we are united in our differences. Ask the next person you see what their passion is, and share your inspiring dream with them. Travel often; getting lost will help you find yourself. Some opportunities only come once; seize them. Life is about the people you meet, and the things you create with them, so go out and start creating. Life is short. Live your dream and wear your passion.
