Consistency Now!

Hi, I'm Sarah. I gained weight after I moved to the States from the UK due to being more sedentary, working in an office with a seemingly constant supply of doughnuts, and feeling generally depressed sometimes with how life was going. I tried various diet attempts but always gained more weight back when I fell off the wagon. I finally ended up just tipping the scales into an "obese" BMI which was my wake up call.

This time, I'm doing it slowly and surely, and not depriving myself. I've realized that I'm always going to be a slow loser because I don't have the stick-to-it-ness to stay on a really low calorie diet long term. I'd rather change my way of eating permanently by making smaller incremental changes. I don't actually care how long it takes to lose the weight, just so long as I do lose it eventually, and I make this a real lifestyle change in the process. I also want to get back to a more healthy, whole food and organic way of eating. I've been a vegetarian for 20+ years, and try to generally eat healthily anyway, so that shouldn't be too much of a stretch.

I started aiming for an intake of 1550-1800 calories (ish) a day, which worked well. After losing 20 lbs or so and then maintaining for over a year, I have switched to aiming for 1350-1600 calories (ish) due to being a bit older and more sedentary. I know that if I try to limit myself too close to 1200, I feel deprived and give up and go off the wagon. In any case, there were long periods of time on WeightWatchers where I was miserable eating at the bottom of my points range and I was only losing 0.5 lbs a week at best. So I don't think 1200 is good for me at all. I think I go into "starvation mode" when I restrict my calories too much.

"Beautiful Woman Award! Once you've been given this award, you have to paste it on the wall of 8 women who deserve it. If you receive more than 3, you know you're really beautiful! If you break the chain, nothing will happen, but it's always good to know someone thinks you're beautiful inside and out"
