Pre-race about 15 minutes to launch, with Kenyan Mitei Enock. Mitei placed 6 with a pace of 4:38 and a finish time of 28:43. I took a little longer.

I have found my solution to the never ending cycle of YoYo weight. It's a combination of Sparkpeople and HCC!
2010 began with a firm commitment to get in shape: for myself, and also for my husband and a reunion with 6 of my college gal pals. We EIU alumni rented a beach house and spent a week talking, laughing, sharing. Just us 7 girls! I could not "weight" to show off my loss to them. I wanted to lose another 10 pounds before then but am not frantic about it. I'm so pleased to be able to look and feel this good. I hope I encouraged them to do the same. It feels so good!
18 months later I just returned from a family wedding. I have maintained my weight and found reading "Younger Next Year" to be inspiring and motivational. Highly recommended.
I now run regularly and am seriously considering a 13.1 at Kiawah Island SC the end of 2011. My motivators are three: my husband of 29+ years; a SweatyBands.com rep named Merle (She has great joy in her life of which much stems from her great physical health and mental attitude) and John - colleague and mentor/coach whose current health battle with cancer continues to inspire me to NEVER give up.
After a hiatus of exercise, I am back at it, and in the gym. My knees did not want to do a 13.1 and I said ok - later.
My mentor passed away this month. He was laid to rest March 19, in Quantico, VA. I will remember his words and smiling face when I need inspiration to maintain my healthy life journey. Sempre Fi John!
My goal? Maintain the new healthy lifestyle of exercise, nutrition and emotional/mental health. forever.
I took ownership of this wonderful program. I have an awesome team and a literal ARMY of support at the MUSC Wellness Center. Janis and her staff, and volunteers know how to make it work. It's a lot of hours, sweat, maintaing a log - but it works! ;-).
My team sponsored by Louie's Kids VOLUNTARILY elected to workout M-F at 6AM! Sat workouts are 930AM Sundays are 230PM.
My husband and I chose to relocate to Charleston, SC in 1986. We love it here.

I am active on sparks everyday. From five minutes to an hour. It depends. I make a priority of checking in on my start page to record my water fruit and exercise. I am most active on my Amazon team. It is great and revolves around reading, but many other topics surface. That is the only one I would recommend. It is active and there are many people in and out. My other team has five active members for as long as I can remember. We chat through the week and support each other over the years. It is small and simple. The other teams are practical and have to do with my area or the sparks community, which keeps me informed and I like to support. So while I check in each day, I have an active life and do not spend undue time social networking, but rather in the real world. But this is a great release since I do deal with lots of people, because it is private and a release when needed. Long answer to a short question. If you are looking for a team I would highly recommend the Amazon, Nook, and Books team! Have a great one! Jewell

Thanks for the sparkmail and update. In perusing your page I noticed two things..you look great! And you have joined no spark teams. Did you delete them? Or are you focusing your time on weight loss resources?

BTW, Sorry, I have been pretty busy packing for a move and not too sparky. However, wanted to wish you blessings and cheer for the upcoming Holidays. I will be a.w.o.l. for a good bit. So please have the best Christmas and New Years!

Thank you for your comments on my blog and your support – I did think long and hard about posting the pictures but I feel strongly that, if one goes to all that trouble to lose weight that one needs to be proud of their accomplishments and of themselves.
A lot of people can relat to my body shape – and maybe a few can now feel that it is OK – that others have the same body shape – that it is certainly nothing to be ashamed of!!
Also- since I was using a public pool that was open to other people - its summer here, school holidays and in good weather could be full of kids and parents, there seemed little point in trying to hide!!
It also, hopefully, showed that there is a reason for Strength training – that no matter what size one is – the hard work pays off
Though aerobic exercise is great for weight loss, strength training is even more necessary the more obese a person is, since the muscles and bones have become weakened by lack of physical activity, yet it is the form of exercise that so often gets neglected – most people know that I have been through all this – so, hopefully, my example can lead others!!
