Susan's road to being healthy!
My back story:
I've been overweight my whole life, coming from a family where we didn't eat out much, but the potato chips were plentiful and exercise was non-existant. I never was encouraged to join a sports team or do anything more physical than casually riding my bike around the block. My weight grew steadily until i was 194 by high school graduation. Keep in mind i'm 5'3''. I thought the "freshman 15" would kill me, but i wasn't very interested in the dorm food, and going ...

I never was encouraged to join a sports team or do anything more physical than casually riding my bike around the block. My weight grew steadily until i was 194 by high school graduation. Keep in mind i'm 5'3''. I thought the "freshman 15" would kill me, but i wasn't very interested in the dorm food, and going to a BIG campus meant a LOT of walking. I ended up weighing around 138 my softmore year and feeling pretty good. That's when i met my husband-to-be. And when my weight started to climb again. Eating with him, and eating the same amount as him, pushed my weight slowly back up again. 9 wonderful years later when we got married I weighed around 200lbs! That was 8 months ago. I guess all the wedding pics really hit home. So i started slowly and haphazzardly at the beginning of this year and lost 24lbs from my highest. It's all down-hill from here, and in a good way!
My first intro:
I just accidently stumbled upon SparkPeople yesterday (6/21/08)and am now obsessed! I have lost about 22 lbs from my highest about 8 months ago. I have about 50 or so more to go. I also just turned 30 in May, and got married last Oct. I joke that i'm the only wife who actually loses a lot of weight after getting married. For a few years now i've been working out about 6 hours a week, but i could never lose weight. I finally decided to watch what i was eating (not diet!), and that helped me start to lose. I love to exercise, so it's all about eating - especially at night and when i'm around my husband (who wants to eat out all the time and eat junk food a lot).
MINI - MILESTONES!
7/16/08: I fit into my pale pink cords! I loved these pants about 4 years ago, but i grew out of them. Not anymore, I wore them to work today!!! I'm hoping to post a pic shortly!
7/23/08: Bought 2 pairs of size 14 jeans!!! Been a LONG time since i was size 14!
8/4/08: First comment from a coworker "You're losing weight, aren't you?" YEAH!!!!!
8/20/08: Realized i weigh LESS than what my driver's license says (and you know we ALL lie!)
8/21/08: Not a milestone, but joined a Weight-Loss Challenge at work. Ends Nov 21. Go Team 2S2! (I CAME IN 2ND!)
9/2/08: Wore a SIZE 12 pair of pants to work today! Looking good!!!
9/5/08: RAN a MILE straight! In 15 min, but without stopping... and after 30 min on eliptical!
9/16/08: Am officially just "overweight". Bye Bye obeseness!
9/21/08: Down 40 lbs from highest weight!!
11/21/08: HALF WAY THROUGH MY TICKER!! Down 25 lbs! And I came in 2nd in the office weightloss challenge!!! 7% down in 3 months!!!!!
11/27/08: RAN A 10K. Ran the Turkey Chase 10K in 1:15, a 12.13 min/mile pace!!!!
1/20/09: Bought 2 pairs of size 10 pants! Size 10!!!!
3/16/09: Can run 2 12 minute miles without stopping!
3/28/09: Bought and wore a pair of size 8 jeans! CRAZY!!!!!

To be able to fit tall boots over my calves! (i think this'll never happen, i just have muscular calves, boo)
To fit into "designer" jeans. (MET! - size 10 Lucky Brand!)
To RUN a 5K - (MET, i ran a 10K 11/27/08, and a 2nd in April 2009)
Watch how much i eat and to exercise - it's that simple!
Started taking Tang Soo Do style Karate/Jujitsu in Sept 09. Received yellow belt on Nov 13! Won 3rd place trophy in first Karate tournament Dec 12, 09! Made Green belt March 12, 10! Won 1st place trophy at Tournament Dec 16, 10. Received blue belt on June 10, 2011!
It's about time i start thinking of rewards for losing weight.
