Time for an update!

After my initial 25 lb weight loss in 2011, I hit a plateau and have basically been there ever since. Four years later I found that 12 of those pounds were back, and still struggling to be successful at losing any weight at all, UNTIL I discovered what my body responded to. After much research and many hours trying to figure out why I couldn't lose weight, I read the following; "If you've been significantly overweight for a long time and you struggle with appetite, carb cravings and slow weight loss, then it may be worth your while to experiment with a diet higher in protein and healthy fats, and lower in refined carbohydrates and sugar."

Well it works! I am losing weight again for the first time in 4 years, and have lost 10 lbs in just under 2 months of eating this way. Not only that, I am not going hungry and I am enjoying the most delicious foods and treats. This has been an easier and more successful approach than I could have ever dreamed of! My goal weight is finally within reach!

February 2013
This year I am focused on my faith, fitness and healthy eating. I turned 50 on February 1st (2013) and will strive to lose a few more pounds and maintain my weight and general well-being.

This verse says it all;
It is good for me to draw near to God. ~ Psalm 73:28

December....
My interval walking is doing wonders for me, I feel great. Been maintaining my weight and eating healthy.

November....
Started adding walk/jog intervals into my workout and so far so good. Even though it is such a busy time of year, I am happy that I am able to get in these extra workouts.

October....
An extremely busy September still has lots of momentum going into this month. I am thrilled to say that I have been able to workout consistently for the past couple of weeks and feeling so much better for it.

September....
Busiest time of year for me in all aspects of life, so striving to take one day at a time and get back to being consistent with my workouts.

August....
My goal this month is to restart the workouts my breathing issues had stopped and get my fitness minutes back up to where I was accustom to having them. I definitely do not spend as much time socializing on Spark as I once did in the past, and that's okay, we all have our seasons. I have met some wonderful people on this site and whether I am here much doesn't deter from the wonderful friendships I have made.

July....
Still maintaining my weight! Enjoying the season and all that it brings. Will be having a week off mid-month and that means some R&R.

June....
June is continuing in the same manner as May did. Working out some, but not full tilt like I was. Still feeling pretty good most times, but really have to pay attention to my breathing problems. Maintaining weight which is a good thing!

May....
May has started off on a positive note. A trip to my doctor revealed that my BP is still down enough that I can have some of that medication reduced, and same with my cholesterol. My doctor also told me that she is happy with my current weight....I would still like to lose a bit more, but nice to hear that!

April....
April arrived with changes to my exercise regime. After a bad breathing attack a couple of weeks ago, I still haven't been able to get back to my workout schedule. It takes nothing to get me winded. I am hoping this is a temporary setback and that I will be able to resume my workouts as before. My Workout Every Day Streak had to end because of this, but 111 days is a great accomplishment!

March....
As March arrives I have ramped up my fitness and am concentrating on tracking my nutrition consistently. I am also concentrating on strength training. I have reduced my Sparking as it can get too time consuming trying to keep up with everything. I am also no longer concerned about earning every Spark point I possibly can, that doesn't get me healthier. Spending the time working out and tracking my food and fitness IS what helps me.

February....
This month although short has a lot stuffed into it! It starts with my birthday, and then my hubby and I are celebrating our 20th anniversary on Valentines Day! Next up just a few days later is my youngest son's 17th birthday! My commitment this month is to focus on good strength training habits, while maintaining a high level of cardio and healthy eating.

January....
As I look back at this past year, finding Spark, eating better, getting healthier AND losing weight, I can't help but be so thankful and reflect that I have had a great year.
I have also enjoyed this journey more than I thought possible.
I have had some pretty exciting adventures, and I am looking forward to the adventures that I have planned for the upcoming year.
Life is such a special journey, being healthier and happier has enhanced my life much more than I could have imagined!

Christmas...
We give gifts at this time of year to our loved ones because God gave us the greatest gift of all, His son Jesus.

September...
It IS An Amazing Race!!
Time for a new update because NOW is the time to get this done!

Halfway there is a great accomplishment, but now is the time to finish off this race and enjoy the healthy lifestyle I have grown accustom to over the past 8 months.

Losing weight can seem like an impossible task, but it really isn't. Like anything worth having, it requires work and patience, and a good attitude. One cannot expect the good results only, you have to accept the roadblocks, detours and surprises that are around the corner. You have to allow yourself those binging moments, those "I can't believe I ate that" episodes and instead of beating yourself up, you learn from it and discover that it really is part of the learning curve which is a crucial part of this journey.

I am enjoying being on the 'back 9' and am ever so grateful I found my Spark!

Struggling to lose weight for the past few years, lower my high BP and Cholesterol. This site is the best help I have ever had, and am already seeing results in such a short time :)

I walk on my treadmill 5 days a week, use my rower when I can find time, and am following my own low carb, high protein plan.

Personal Information:
God has truly blessed me with 2 wonderful sons and a loving husband. We live in Southern Ontario.

I work from the comfort of my own home and so scheduling workouts is easier for me.

Other Information:
I love to visit Niagara Falls, I never get tired of it, it is so beautiful there. I feel so blessed that we only live about 90 minutes away.
I love to watch The Amazing Race, I am probably their biggest fan!
I also enjoy jigsaw puzzles, or any kind of puzzle really, murder mysteries, quilting and above all doing anything with my family.

ok I will google it and see what happens .. the chocolite bars are mostly soy and I stay away from soy as much as I can with thyroid .. it is in the protein shake.. but I have a friend that ships me them.. she wants me to have them .. its so nice ..and they are good

thanks for your info - nice to have a low carb store ?? we don't have that .. I have been low carbs for years... the dumb educators tell me with my byetta to eat some starches with every meal - well this has screwed things up more - went to diabetic class this week and was told different about taking my byetta ... never heard that before ... I had my body in check in dec - then got new ins... and they said they would not pay for a lot of my meds - threw me off .. I am sensitive to pharmaceuticals.. have the copd- asthma-hypothyroid ( that made the weight come back & more ) gyno is helping with that - self medicate - I am 220, and eat 1500 cals and stay around 100 carbs/ if over net carbs are 100 or less ... sparks nutrition will calculate net carbs .. nice .. so I printed out your info for a day to see if I can get close to that and see the carbs and if any weight moves again - I would be happy with 1 lb a week... this is long - should have messaged it LOL.. I belong to teams you do - doing the app trail team .. for walks .. can do the lung team but no new info to add LOL.. thanks again for info .. next time I will message emoticon emoticon emoticon
