I enlisted in March of 1970 in the Air Force. I lived by Deep Creek Lake in Maryland until then, but generally the only jobs were summer jobs. The lake tourism has taken off over the years. I thought I would get to travel and I wanted to be a nurse. I was a clerk typist and was stationed (basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas) at Maxwell AFB in Alabama then at Lockbourne renamed Rickenbacker AFB in Ohio.
My Dad died in January 1971, so in the Providence of God, it was a good thing that I had a job and benefits and wasn't a burden on my Mom after his death.
I am getting close to 60 years old and that time in service, helped me to mature and learn to do things for myself. I didn't have chores as a child and really that crippled me in many areas after I was a grown up. I just expected someone would wait on me and still tend to ask my husband, "Would you get me this or that." I am trying to break myself of the habit and get up and get what I want and offer to him while I am at it. 2481 days ago
