Hello. I'm a type II diabetic, with Fatty Liver and less than perfect cholesterol. I love playing sports, mostly racquetball. However, it just isn't helping me loose weight.
My Dr. recommended I go on Medifast. After researching the diet (1000 Calories / day), I decided it was too dangerous and unhealthy. His take is I need to loose weight now, no matter how - The risk of being obese outweighs the risk of the diet. I feel that this diet will be a bandaid and not a permanent weight loss solution. So, this encouraged me to come up with my own diet plan, based on 1800 calories / day, with balanced carbs/protein/fat. I found this site and really like it. I was also encouraged that my diet followed pretty closely to their recommended plan. So, I started my journey on 10/25/06.
I am still overwhlemed at the thought that I need to follow this diet & exercise plan for the rest of my life, but for now I am just trying to loose weight. I'll worry about the "forever" aspect later.
1. Loose Weight
2. Lower Cholesterol
3. Reduce/Eliminate Diabetic Medicine
4. Look Better
Approx 1800 calories per day: 65% Carb, 35% Protein, 20% Fat
1. At Least 30 Minutes Cardio Every Day
2. Strength Training 3 Days/Week
3. Take Stairs when going 3 flights or less (approx 6 times a day at work)
1. Add back at least 60 minutes racquetball 3 times a week
1. Increase Cardio to at least 90 Minutes 3 times a week.
I am from Peoria, Illinois. We also had a summer cabin in Northern Wisconsin, which I now visit every other year.
Now living in Houston. My wife is Okinawan, so we travel to Okinawa every few years.
I am a web developer for a major computer manufacturer in Houston. So, needless to say, computers are my main hobby. I also love racquetball, science fiction, and travel.

Was surfing through the site and saw your page. Had to write you because of alot of reasons. 1. your a guy and there aren't many on this site. 2. you love to cook and so do I (check out my sparkpage and there is a link to one of my receipes that has been approved) 3. Your from Peoria and my parents and grandparents are from around there. I spent my summers in the 60's with my Grandparents in Hurst, outside of Carbondale. I have Uncles and cousins still living in Peoria. Those are good memories 4. What you said about this diet being forever hit me pretty hard too. I have been on this diet since August and have lost about 40, I have 75 to go. Anyway, drop me a line, a don't post alot and I am not on the internet everyday, but I'm around. My wife and I live about 60 miles south of Houston on the coast. I am an operations manager for a sandpit company in the Houston area. Good luck! Great looking kids, they are the best motivators. I'm loosing so I can see my grandkids grow up. My kids are grown (ages 22-32) and we have 6 grandkids. Anyway, think positive and go for it!

Congratulations on joining this site. You are correct on trying to make this a lifestyle change and taking off the weight in a healthy manner. You will find lots of support and informatiion here. Ask questions in the Community area. You will get lots of responses.
