Me and my soulmate, Duke.
02/17/13 Today, I'm at 136 pounds. That is still within my goal range according to my doctor but not according to me. I'd like to get back down to 125 at least so I'm tracking my foods and everything that I put into my mouth. Sometimes, it's hard to eat all I'm supposed to eat. The extra 10 pounds happened after a lot of stress and too much drinking of wine. I was not treating myself well. My mom passed away in September, 2012, shortly after my last update here. I kind of lost it at that time and was busy with work, school, family and mourning issues. I'm better now and ready to get my weight back off and be the person I want to be. My first step is to track all my food and make sure I get all my protein and water in for the day. Seems easy, right? Not so much after gastric bypass surgery. I'm going to have to figure out how to keep my calories down and my protein up.
09/02/2012: Today, I am at 125 pounds. It seems to be my body weight norm for me. I'd like to lose 10 more pounds but it seems to be always at 125 minus or plus a few for water weight.
I am happy to announce that I am off my high blood pressure medications. That's a good thing. I can also actually walk and breathe better. I'm also still hating exercise. That's just me. I always did. I do like to walk in interesting places and will spend a whole day walking in an antique mall so I consider that exercise. I still try to maintain a low carb lifestyle. I'm finishing up my bachelor's degree this December which has been a lifetime goal of mine. I will continue to work on me and balance who I am both at a physical level and a spiritual level. My passions include my family, art and education among others. I am happy with who I am today and with whom I spend my life. I love my husband and soulmate who has supported me and loved me all the way through this journey. I am a lucky woman to have him. More later.
10/21/11 Happy Halloween! I am now at 120 pounds; a total of 110 pounds lost. I feel better than I can remember!
Surgery was a success! I am now 3 pounds below my original goal weight and never thought I'd ever see the 120ies again!
Now, if I can just get my head to see what the scales see.
I am happy though. I still have work to do on getting in shape and I know it's going to be a lifetime battle. I just have to watch it daily now. From my highest weight of 230 pounds, I am down by 103 pounds all together. A happy girl am I!
Well, after many days of trial and setbacks with my health and issues with my bypass surgery, I am finally feeling better and taking better care of me. My goals for the year are to try and balance all areas of life including stress management above all. I look for any and all suggestions that any of my friends here offer. What has worked for you. My ideas include getting regular massages and trying to look into meditation. I am not a religious person. I am more of an agnostic. I do believe in a higher power but I'm not limited to the Christian religion. I believe they all have something to offer so I'm not looking for that kind of guidance.
Anyway, I now weight 145 and was excited about that when I got on the scale today. I'm happy to see it going down. I had issues with too much acid but I think taking my probiotics regularly has helped with that too.
I want to use this year to explore other ways to better my health. So, I will be trying to get my body in shape physically with exercise. I'm not going to worry about what kind right now but just to do something every day. I have found that when I make rules for myself and then don't follow them, that I tend to want to give. SO, with that being said, I'm just going to try to move more and find ways to exercise that don't inconvenience me and do things that I love. Dancing is fun to me and so are water exercises. I joined a gym with both so that should be a good place to start.
I had my gastric bypass surgery on 8-2-10 and I can't explain how i feel so much better so soon. I'm already feeling relief from back pain and have more energy.
Well, here I am again. Starting over from the beginning almost after much stress in my life. I now need to lose 70 lbs. I am trying to face the fact that I have to make a considerable lifestyle change based on my health and my dietary needs and nutrition needs. I know I have to monitor it every day. This time, I am determined to make it because life is getting too short for me. The more I gain, the less I live in the moment. I want to live a long healthy life!
Well, how did this happen? I started out with good intentions last year and really did well. Then the summer came and all my good intentions and motivation flew out the window.
Well, I'm back and my motto this year is "2009 is mine." This will be the year I stay focused and reach my goals. I'm doing this by simplifying my life in all areas. First of all, I've had to leave some of my spark teams because I really just do not have time for reading or participating in all of them or the emails they create.
This year I will just read and try to participate in the few teams that seem to help me. These support the diet plans that I have had success with.
I'm gaining control over my body this year and my health.
Hi, I'm Donna and I am 54 yrs old. I am married to my soulmate and we have 2 daughters and 2 sons between the two of us (a second marriage for the both of us). We also have 3 beautiful grandchildren.
I found SparkPeople by accident one day and now I'm totally hooked on it. I think that's a good addiction. I have always struggled with my weight since I was in the 3rd grade and my grandmother started to babysit me before and after school. She lived next door. She loved me very much and showed that love by feeding me constantly more than any 3rd grader should eat. Along with the feedings came the guilt if I did not eat everything on my plate. "Think of all the starving children in China!" So, I ate. And ate...and so on. You get the point, huh?
I went from a slim second grader to a fat third grader and stayed that way until the summer of 66...the summer I discovered dancing and the summer before 7th grade. I would dance between doing all my chores and every time a 'good' song came on the radio. I could do the 'pony' with the best of them and always watched those dancing shows on TV that had the go-go girls on them. I learned all the dances. I got slim without trying and by the first day of 7th grade, people were turning their heads to look at me because they did not recognize me at first. That was fun.
Then after high school, I got married and then got pregnant and with each pregnancy added more weight. I went on diet after diet and lost and gained and that went on for years until my biggest weight of 230 lbs. I am only 5' 2" tall so 230 lbs is a lot of weight for my small frame. It's depressing to think about it. I went on the Atkins diet and lost 100 lbs. I did it eating low fat proteins. I worked out daily at 5:30 in the morning. That was in 1999. Not my best year by far. It was a totally stressed out year both in good ways and bad. I went through a divorce; lost my job; my cat of 19 yrs died; I lost the weight; quit smoking all within a few months. Then in 2000, I moved to a new job and new town. There is where I met my soulmate and we have been married now for 4 years.
I want to lose about 29 lbs to get back to my goal weight because I am so scared of getting back up to 230 lbs. I am here at SparkPeople to make friends and find support to help me in my journey. I also hope to be of some inspiration to others who have been down the same road as I have.
I love to hike and to be outdoors with nature. If I could live anywhere I wanted, it would be in or near mountains. I think it's ironic that I live in Texas which is flat for the most part in my area. I've always felt calm in the mountains and relaxed.
I am using this site to monitor my calories and my weight and exercise. It can be so overwhelming sometimes. I'm going to use the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid) as my way of reminding me to just do it, NikeGirl! I plan to count calories as well as try to eat a low carb/good carb diet with lots of healthy fruits and veggies and whole grains.
Well, that about sums it up for me. Hope to see you online. Have a great weight loss journey!
My goals are to now lose 70 lbs. I will be using my doctors nutritionist and RNY (gastric bypass) to help me reach and keep my goal weight.
I'm going to use sparkpeople to help me monitor my weight and food and exercise plan. Also, to help me measure my nutrients needed daily and to keep me more accountable to myself.
My goals include losing 50 lbs as well as getting myself into better health and taking charge of my own healthcare.
July 8, 2008 - new goals include to get back on track and eat healthy foods every day. I will strive to exercise at least 20 minutes a day and stay within my calorie range. I want to lose 30 lbs by the end of this year. This should be a reasonable and reachable goal.
I will be following my doctors prescribed plan after RNY and monitor calories and nutrients from that plan. It is mostly low fat and low carb.
I'm from DFW, TX.
I am married to my soulmate for 6 yrs now. I have two daughters and two step sons and 3 beautiful grandchildren.
I enjoy sewing and quilting when I have the time. I work fulltime and go to school half time. I'm still working on finishing a bachelor's degree since family and other things took up my time earlier in life. I'm just doing it for me but I love the learning process.
