Steve's Remodeling in Process: My Temple Restoration Project - My body/Gods temple

Hello, my name is Steve welcome to my page.
For too many years I have abused my body and not taken care of it by loving me. As a Christian I am told to love others as I love myself. I’m not promoting a stuck on yourself pride but a love that longs to care for one’s self. So how can I truly love God, my wife, family and others if I don’t truly love myself? Ouch!!!

Ouch!!!
June 2010 I decided it was time that I love me and have that love for me reflected in my physical appearance, attitude and actions. So I started on this journey to restore my body/God’s temple. It wasn’t until November of 2010 that I discovered SparkPeople and it was just what God knew I needed. So at the age of 51 I am learning a new life style in eating and being active. I can't do anything about the past, but I will do something about the future with God’s help.

So the journey to date (9-19-11) has taken me 15 months, 5 months before Sparkpeople and 10 months with SP. I have learned a lot about Steve in those 15 months and I know there is still a lot to learn. But one thing I know is that I can never return to the life I used to have. I say that because I am enjoying this new lease on life that has been created by this “Lifestyle Change.” So I continue to progress forward toward my goal, which by the way is 23lbs away. I should reach my goal by my first ½ marathon in January 2011. To learn more about my journey read my blogs.

Keep your focus on God and on your successes regardless how small. And keep a positive attitude.

Goals for 1/15/12 - 1/20/12

In my earlier blog I shared about signing up for different events for the year to give me goals to shoot for. Well I have accomplished that goal. I am now registered for:

1. April 21, 2012 - Pat Tillman run this will be the first event I am training to run in not powerwalk.
2. June 6, 2012 – Walking/Hiking into the Grand Canyon (and back out…lol)
3. October 27, 2012 - Lincoln Family Downtown Y half Marathon (& 5k walk/run) I’m doing the ½ Marathon
4. January 20, 2013 – PF Chang Marathon (26.2)
5. A couple of fun walks and hikes
6. And do several walks/hikes with local Spark friends

February 2, 2012

WooHoo!!!! Its official I now weight 170lbs, that means I have officially reached my goal. As for today I have lost 175lbs. Not it’s time to switch to maintaining this new lifestyle change.

Weight Update: 8-22-13

I have been able to maintain my weight between 163-168 pounds for 1 ½ years now. It was far easier losing the weight then keeping it off. I have to really work at keeping my focus as I readjust my calorie intake and continue to work on fine tuning my fitness program. I like a poster I saw the other day. “Fitness is not a destination…It’s a way of life” I will always have to keep vigilant if I want to stay fit. And I will always have to be adjusting my calorie intake based on my physical activity level and age. But with God’s help I will succeed.

No matter what the circumstances are, we have to remember that the Bible says "Give thanks in all things"
Don Moen is one of my favorite Christian music artists. Here are the words to one of his songs, that I hope will minister to you this week. I sing it as a prayer.

Thank You Lord
Song by Don Moen
Bible says it's a good thing to give thanks to the Lord, amen
I come before You today
And there's just one thing that I want to say
Thank You Lord
Thank You Lord
For all You've given to me
For all the blessings I can not see
Thank You Lord
Thank You Lord
With a greatful heart
With a song of praise
With an outstreched arm
I will bless Your name
Thank You Lord
I just wanna thank You Lord
Thank You Lord
I just wanna thank You Lord
Thank You Lord
For all You've done in my life
You took my darkness and gave me Your light
Thank You Lord
Thank You Lord
You took my sin and my shame
You took my sickness and healed all my pain
Thank You Lord
Thank You Lord
With a greatful heart
With a song of praise
With an outstreched arm
I will bless Your name

SOmetimes I feel so discouraged on this journey. I feel defeated and like I am a failure. Some days I feel so unworthy knowing I have not made the right choices.
At times like those, Christian music can change my focus and lift my spirit. today I share the lyrics of a song written by Geron Davis. His wife Becky does such a touching rendition.

Mercy Saw Me- Written By Geron Davis

The years had left scars. The scars had left pain. How could he recognize me? I wasn't the same. I knew I should pay and I knew the price. For justice and law demanded my life. Yet, his tender heart heard my desperate cry. And he saw my past through merciful eyes.

Chorus: Beautiful! That's how mercy saw me; Though I was broken and so lost, mercy looked past all my faults. Justice of God saw what I had done, but mercy saw me through the Son; Not what I was, but what I could be, that's how mercy saw me.

Wherever you go, you can't go too far that his eyes of mercy can't see where you are. He loves you too much to leave you alone. You're flesh of his flesh and bone of his bone. Yet his heart cries out for your heart today. See yourself through his eyes and then you will say, you'll say:

Bridge: Sin has stolen my dignity and all my self-esteem. But I was made brand new again when mercy looked at me.

Know that when the Lord looks at YOU - in HIS eyes - You are beautiful!
