Trying to be fit AND sane (not one at the expense of the other). I have a very full life--full-time job, freelance work, church involvement, writing poetry, Latin American solidarity work, being a mom & grandma. And a few other things that get fit into cracks here & there. And a tendency toward insomnia . . .

So I'm never going to be one of those people who devote hours every day to working out at the gym. But I need & want to lose some weight & get stronger--super important as I age. It's an ongoing struggle. I'm thankful to have many good resources available for learning here at SP, & many good friends to help keep me on track.

Fitness Minutes: 34,564

My Goals:
* be strong & reasonably slim

* get 7.5-8 hours of sleep per night

* get to 150 (or less) & maintain

* make excellent use of the abundant veggies & fruits I get early June to late October through a CSA (community-sponsored agriculture) project

My Program:
* get to bed by 10:30-11:00 each night (it makes a big difference when I do!)

* cardio & strength training 5 times per week

* eat within my recommended range

* cook good food at home & eat out less (I've been doing this & it's kind to my budget as well as my waistline)

* give myself small rewards to keep it fun!

Personal Information:
I'm a writer (poet) & editor. Also love to sing harmony, read, folk dance, & just contemplate beautiful things. I'm a sporadic visual artist too & look forward to returning to a couple of picture-book projects when my schedule allows.

    Thanks for the heads up on Greek yogurt! I am getting the added fruit kind. I was wondering about that. I had checked on my unsweetened cubed pears and was shocked at sugar content until I looked up the natural sugar in fresh pears. I am still learning. Hugs, Laurel

    I know sugar is inflammatory. I am curious too whether it correlates with less RA pain. Hugs, Laurel

    Thanks for responding to my blog about October goals. I really liked your ideas of how to reach and respond to the comfort seeker without resorting to unhealthy foods. I did so well yesterday, actively looking up sugar levels in foods I ate. Today, the new doctor day, went well even with frustration as to what can and mainly can't be done. I decided to take myself out to lunch and had a wonderful spinach salad and a chai tea. Then, I went to find this specialty shoe shop which turned out to be useless....out came the chocolate. I really need to find better ways to hug myself. emoticon and tell myself that all will be well. I will think about your journaling and your comfort jar. emoticon Hugs, Laurel
