Hi Pat, I came across your profile from the heart rate article. Here is some information I found that I think might apply to you. It's from the American Heart Association's website.
70 years 75–128 beats per minute 150 beats per minute
"Your maximum heart rate is about 220 minus your age. The figures above are averages, so use them as general guidelines.
Note: A few high blood pressure medications lower the maximum heart rate and thus the target zone rate. If you're taking such medicine, call your physician to find out if you need to use a lower target heart rate."
I use a heart rate monitor, but another quick and easy way is to find your pulse and count the beats for 6 seconds. (Look at a clock.) Then, just multiply by 10 to calculate your beats per minute.
Good luck, and by the way, can I tell you that in the week I've been on Spark, every person who's profile I look at mentions God? I think it's His good work and encouragement that draws me to each profile. 1986 days ago
Just read your comment on the heart rate monitor thing and was completely impressed by someone who is 70 years old exercising and getting on this site! I hope to be just like you when I reach 70 years. Congratulations! You are awesome! 2000 days ago
Hi Pat, just added you as a Spark friend. Don't ever get rid of that beautiful smile. Makes me feel like I could pull up a chair and we could have a good chat over a cup of tea. ;) Marsha FL 2003 days ago
Hi Pat! I ran across your comment on the blog about the gals running in a Chicago Marathon, that you'd like to meet some of these people. Go for it!! Meeting people from the net is an awesome experience, especially since with SP, we ALL understand the ultimate goal of improving our health. I've reunited with a daughter that I'd given up as a teenage (that was 2000, we keep in touch often and she is 45 now), met my current hubby, and have a very good friend that I've penpaled with since '04, in PA that I met just last Nov, all because of the internet. I'd also like to Congratulate you on your weight loss! You are quite an example. I finally got serious in Feb and have til next July to get to and maintain my goall, before my youngest's wedding. Best of luck to you! If you can't run it, you cah still cheer them on!! mary
I found your page by chance this morning. Congratulations for the great progress you are making. You give me hope. I have been thinking that perhaps I am doomed to not lose any more. You are proving that it is not too late. Keep up the good work.
