Hello there, my name is Leila, and I guess I'll let you know a bit about myself. I'm in my mid to late twenties, and have been married since May 2010. At my highest weight of 234 lbs, which at 5'9" is definitely not ideal, I decided to really try to do something. Hello there, my name is Leila, and I guess I'll let you know a bit about myself. I'm in my mid to late twenties, and have been married since May 2010. At my highest weight of 234 lbs, which at 5'9" is definitely not ideal, I decided to really try to do something. I've always been on the big side, so I'm not looking to drop to some tiny number like 130 lbs, but if I can reach 160-165 within a year or so I'll be more than happy.

While weight loss is definitely an important goal, I also hope to shift to a healthier lifestyle for the long term. This is a goal for my husband as well, who is not overweight at all, but needs to change his habits nonetheless. Our main motivation is that we plan to start trying for our first child sometime soon. I want to be living a healthy life before I'm pregnant, so that being healthy during pregnancy comes naturally. We also hope that if we can use this time to change ourselves, then we will be able to be healthy role models later for our child.

In addition to trying to be healthier, I am also working on a Ph.D. in Mathematics. The stress is insane, and just escalates my desire for unhealthy junk food. But I'm doing my best to handle both school and a lifestyle change at the same time.

Well, I guess that's an overview of what my goals are. Wish me luck, and good luck to all of you working towards your own goals!

Welcome!
I am also trying to get healthy before I try for a second pregnancy, stick to it! I find that after a couple weeks of changing my lifestyle, I get that urge to fall back into my past routine.

Welcome! I am finding that Luck has little to do with it- This is all within our capable hands! For me, its one choice at a time and until I started tracking my food, I really felt powerless over what I was putting in my body. There are a lot of great resources here!

I am trying to get healthier before I get pregnant a 2nd time. In my experience, especially during delivery, I felt that my size hindered me and limited my experience. I DO wish you luck and great success on your conception goals whenever the time is right! But living healthy and active lives isn't about luck, its a birthright. ;o) We just have to show up and claim it!! emoticon
