Pay Attention to ME!

A friend overheard a little boy (about 5 or 6) say this to his mother in an elevator. I love how the ME is enunciated because let's face it, the majority of us don't make ourselves our number one priority. I'm here to say everyone who doesn't like the fact that I am going to finally pay attention to myself can go screw....

And guess what? If you want to hang around with me and come along for my journey again its all about ME! Just to let you know up front what you're in for! I will expend some energy towards my friendships, my relationships, my work, but at the end of the day they are MINE and I will expend my energy where and when I see fit.

I finally read The Spark and I have officially set up the following goals:

Long term goals: (1 year +)

a. Lose an additional 40 pounds.
b. Finish school and find a career path (no, not a career, just a path) which satisfies me.
c. Be able to run a half marathon – I would say my ideal time is under 2.5 hours (between a 5 and 5.3 mph pace)
d. Have more muscle definition!
e. Hold a plank in good form for at least 1 minute
f. Do mountain climbers for 2 minutes with good form
g. Bench press at least 60 pounds
h. Be able to do at least 30 full push-ups
i. Do a pull-up!
j. Lose inches in the following places:
k. 4 inches in my arms
l. 3 inches from my calves
m. 2 inches from my chest
n. 6 inches from my waist
o. 5 inches from my hips
p. 7 inches from my thighs
q. Increase the amount of positivity in my life
r. Try to find a balance in everything in my life – avoid the peripheries

These measurements would put me at about a size 6/8 for the most part. I would be incredibly happy at that size!

So I need to break these up into more short -term action steps/goals (one for each of my long term goals)

Intermediate goals (1-3 months)

a. Lose 10 pounds before the end of summer
b. Defend my thesis before the end of summer – perhaps early September, but have the date at least set.
c. Be able to comfortably jog a 10K by the end of summer
d. Do at least 2 ST sessions a week
e. Hold a plank in good position for at least 20 seconds
f. Do at least 5 sets of mountain climbers in good form
g. Bench press at least 45 pounds, at least 5 reps
h. Do at least 50 girl pushups
i. Rowing machine at least once a week to help strengthen back/lats/biceps/arms
j. Lose inches
k. 1 inch in my arms
l. .5 inches in my calves
m. .5 inches in my chest
n. 1 inch from my waist
o. 1 inch from my hips
p. 1.5 inches from my thighs
q. Say something nice to myself everyday – tell myself why I am so wonderful
r. Don’t sweat the small stuff – try letting things roll over me

Short term action steps:

Cardio:
Workout 6 days a week for at least 55 minutes at a decent intensity.
Health:
Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
Start tracking food!
Strength:
Do 3 sets of planks at 5-10 seconds each at least 3 times/week (both normal and side planks)
Do pushups whenever I get a couple extra minutes at home – aim for 2 sets of 20
Mental:
Say something nice about myself everyday
Have a dialogue with myself about my food choices before I eat.

My Goals:
To achieve a healthy BMI.

Also, fit into a single size pants - no more double digits!

Be able to run a marathon!

Be able to climb Machu Pichu!

I am trying to defend my Ph.D thesis this summer and I want people who haven't seen me in a while be like "DAAAAAANNNGGG!"


My Program:
I do 55 minutes of cardio almost every weekday to start off my day.

I do the intermediate running interval training 2-3 days a week followed by some strength training.

I don't count calories, I know I should, but I eat so much stuff I cook that it can be quite complicated. I am aware of what I eat, but if I am craving something I fulfill that desire because I'm trying not to "diet" I'm trying to make this a lifestyle.


Personal Information:
I absolutely LOVE and require music when I workout.

I am a graduate student, I live at my work...and working out is honestly the only thing that keeps me sane!

I don't have a lot of time for anything else in my life right now other than work and the gym. Once I decide I'm where I need to be, then maybe I'll focus on trying to find someone who I think is awesome enough to tag along!

Also, I have quite low self esteem, not just in my weight, but in all areas of my life. It's something I need to work on....but I'm just not sure how.

I have a beautiful nephew with another on the way. He has taught me that I can't wait to be a mom, but honestly I know that pregnancy can reek havoc on your body so even though it sounds mean, I want to make sure I'm at my goal weight before I think about having kids....also I don't want my kids to be embarrassed to have me as a mom because my mom is (and always has been) AWESOME!!!

My top 3 favorite books are:
Brave New World
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
One Hundred Years of Solitude.

I love pretty much any satirical movie.
