Kristin's Spark Spot
Welcome to my spot! I have been in perpetual diet-land for years, always starting, stopping, recommitting, giving up, giving in. My task, and my journey here is to figure out a way to maintain a happy medium between the extremes of measuring every drop of coffee creamer, running 6 miles a day, and eating fried bar food and drinking an entire bottle of wine. Neither state is happy or healthy. This lifestyle change doesn't have to be shocking or sudden. Gradually recalibrating my barometer to feel happier on less (food, central heating or AC, etc) is a big part of it. I guess just being on the rollercoaster should teach me something. I have the tools, that is easy to see. Now, developing will power is something I haven't quite mastered yet.... Baby steps, just keep going! Enjoy the ride! Kristin's Simple Pleasures when Running in the Cold: *Taking off the icky "work stockings" and putting on puffy, cozy new cotton running sox making my feet feel like running on cotton puffs. *Running AWAY from work thoughts, work people, work clothes, leaving it all behind, running headlong into the dark. *Not sweating too much! Thus not dehydrating as much as summer. remember, winter is easier! *The smell of cool, wet, leaves. and the sound my feet make as I slog over them, through them. *Seeing a college kid standing outside a coffee shop smoking- and thinking, "i'm WAY healthier than that". *Running in the dark- doesn't it feel like you're going faster? you look down so as not to trip, and you look up, and (poof) there goes another block! *The cozy smell of someone's woodburning fireplace. *The runner's high that comes EARLY! prompting me to create this list as I run, appreciating every step. *That yummy sourdough bread I had about an hour before, that's making me feel energetic enough to go forever! *Having the sidewalk all to myself- other people don't know what they're missing. *The wind at your back, running tall, running fast. *The mental calculation: "if i keep going this fast, that's 10 kcal each minute!! bye bye sourdough bread!" *Reaching my turnaround point, thinking, "i can go another mile" *An unexpected downhill, stretching your stride. *A wonderful bowl of warm, friendly tomato and roasted red pepper soup (and more bread) at the end! *The warming thought that friends on sparkpeople were there to push me out the door when i needed it. And now I feel LOTS better!!!

My Goals:
My eating goals include getting a handle on my crazy eating patterns, yanking my sweet tooth, and curbing my constant grazing. My exercise goals are to stay active, trying to encorporate exercise into my daily life to stay strong. Hopefully I will run a marathon someday too! I'd also like to get back the motivation to lift weights and have well defined muscles.
My Program:
I need the structure and accountability that sparkpeople provides. I am logging what I eat since I'm not always able to get the variety of foods on the pre-set menus. I am running/jogging a few times per week, trying to follow a marathon training schedule, and trying not to binge eat too often. I'm posting and reading the motivational sections here too, and its helping!
Personal Information:
I'm 33. No kids yet. My BF and I are living in different states this year. I miss him! (but i am eating much healthier as a result) We're moving out east next July for my next and final step of my training!
Other Information:
I have a black and white kitty cat named Roxy who is my little angel. (She is a BIT overweight too, according to the vet.) I love to be outside, canoeing, hiking, just getting fresh air. There are definetly NOT enough hours in the day to do everything I want. I love music of all sorts, from Classical to Techno. I'm a dog person, but own a cat due to my unforgiving work schedule. I love wine, and learning about wine and would like to own a winery someday.
