One Day at a Time

The day I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabets, was the beginning of a new life. One of the main things I had to do was watch my carbs and lose weight. That was 09/17/07.

My Goals:
As of 04/17/08, my first major goal is to reach 130 by July 31,2008. (not going to make it, but will be real close).

Second wight loss goal is to get to 125, then decide if I need to lose any more weight.

My lifetime goal is to keep control of my diabetes and stay healthy.

My Program:
The things I do to work toward my goals are:
1. Watch calorie intake, including fat and carbs. The Nutrition Tracker works very well for me.
2. Go to the gym at least 3 days per week and on the other days I try to get some sort of exercie or activity. I am suppose to exercise at least 30 minutes per day to keep control of my diabetes.
3. I go to the doctor and Diabetes America several times per year to watch all those number - blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar (finger prick and A1C) and weight.

Personal Information:
I was born in 1956 in Houston, Texas. I have lived in Houston most of my life and have lived in Texas all of my life. I graduated from high school in 1975 and from Sam Houston State University in 1981. I have been married to my wondeful husband since 1981.

Last year, 2007, I was diagnosed with diabetes after being warned over and over again by my doctor to lose weight. I guess that was the kick in the pants that I needed. I have had a full diet and fitness overhaul. I really believe it is a mind over matter challenge. So far, so good.

emoticon How sweet of you to comment on my picture. Sorry you've been missing in action for awhile. You missed all the fireworks. I dared to disagree with someone's post recommending a low-carb/no-carb diet to a diabetic newbie, and got lamblasted all to pieces. Soooo, to make a long story short, I quit the Managing Diabetes team! I will see you around on the other teams though! Miss seeing your posts. Deb
