50 races to 50

Hello. I am quickly approaching the next "phase" of my life and decided to do it with gusto. I want to be in the best shape of my life - for the next phase of my life. I have committed to not just losing weight, but getting healthy and staying that way. I'm looking forward to the journey.

I began running in 2010 when I was 47 - almost 48. I ran (walked and ran) my first 5K race in June. I never thought I could do it. I challenged myself to sign up for another 5K and to run ...

I challenged myself to sign up for another 5K and to run the whole thing. I did just that in August of that year. I then decided to challenge myself to trail runs and longer races.

I got the crazy idea to run 50 races by the time I turned 50. That gave me 3 years to achieve this goal. To date, I have run a total of 30 races. Most of the races are 5K's, a few 10K's, a few 4+ mile trail runs and my greatest achievement - the Atlanta 1/2 Marathon this past November.

While training for the 1/2 marathon I developed a problem with my heel but decided to "run through the pain". In April 2012 I found out that Achilles Tendonitis is not something you "run through". I had to put running, and my goal on hold. It has been 5 weeks now and I am not sure I am any closer to running injury free.

It has been difficult to admit that I may not see my goal by next August. I am hoping that this will heal and I will have time to train again. I am keeping my fingers crossed. In the meantime, I am using Spark People to find new ways to exercise, stay healthy, and stay motivated.

Thanks for all those who have shared. It does make a difference.
