And...I finished my third Half - the Walt Disney World Half Marathon January 22, 2013!

What a great two years it has been...

I was running a minimum of 40 minutes a day (3.29 miles). That was put on hold in October because I had to get a bunionectomy and could not walk on my foot. During the 10 weeks I could not walk, I lost 21 pounds using Nutrisystem because I did not want to gain the weight I lost before the surgery and I could not shop or cook. This proved to be a great decision. I am a lot more conscious of proper portion sizes now. I also eat more than I did before which was probably why it was taking me so long to lose weight.

As of 12/26/11 I began running again. I have slowly worked my way back to running and am currently up to 20 miles per week. I am now working on increasing my speed for the Delaware Half Marathon in May, 2014. It will be my fourth Half Marathon. (Yes, I am addicted to running now!)
My first goal was to run five 5k's in 2011. I achieved this goal 9/22/11...Yayyyyy!! I started running in late December, 2010 so this was huge for me. If you would have told me one year ago that I would have even run one 5k, I would have laughed! Funny how fast one's perspective can change...even for us middle-aged people!

My second goal was to beat my 5k time of 29.47. On March 31, 2012 I ran my first 5k of this season in 27.39!!

My third goal was to be in a size 6 by December 9, 2011. I achieved this goal December 7, 2011 - yes I did cut it close but I did it! It took me one year to go from a very tight size 12 to a size 6 but I am now here and I feel so much better! The biggest things that stand out are my energy level (I stay up later) and I am not huffing and puffing when I go up a flight of stairs. I am running a lot faster now that I lost weight. My current 5K PR to beat is 26.24!

I have eaten a lot healthier over the past two years. I am more mindful of my calories. I log everything in my SparkPeople food tracker and also keep a written log of my exercise and training. I love the food and fitness tracker app on my iphone. It helps me to stay consistent and on track. I still intertwine nutrisystem in my diet. It helps me a lot with portion control. All the foods are in the SparkPeople food tracker which makes it very easy to track meals.

I am so happy that I took up running - it is such a big stress reliever! It is now part of my routine so I just keep going. And, having the goals running in a 2012 Delaware Marathon Relay Team, beating my best 5k time, completing five more 5ks and running in the Disneyland Half Marathon and Baltimore Half Marathon this year helped to keep me focused and motivated. Update: I completed all of the above goals for the 2012 year - YAYYY!

And, on top of all of that, I have signed up for two Half Marathons in 2013 - the Walt Disneyworld Half Marathon January 12, 2013 (COMPLETED) and the Delaware Half Marathon May 12, 2014!

We could definitely be experts at gaining weight :) I am happy to hear that he is gaining; you are right, having something to do to balance all those extra calories is good. I think the running will also help you keep control in the whole situation. It is a good outlet for emotions. :)

I want the killer hill to get easier after I do the 5 mile loop. Somehow it still kicks my butt then....

My son bought Long John Silver's seafood to us on Mother's Day and sub sandwiches the day before that.

I didn't go anywhere or do anything due to being sick. I may make an appointment soon to see the doctor because this crud is not going away. I have had it since April 30th.

I'm sure that's how it feels!
I'm actually well! Feeling great today.
I had a very cranky 3 year old yesterday after daycare, and I was feeling overwhelmed with all the work I had to do, so I saw her eyeing her old stroller in the garage, she hopped in, i strapped her in with a book and a snack and went for a half hour run. I have not done anything to break a sweat in a few weeks, and that run did it for me... pushing the stroller with a larg 3 year old inside, and pulling the dog... who was grunting "why me? what did I do to deserve this?" the whole way. Even my neighbours on the street were commenting on how the dog should be running ahead and not being dragged along! especially a 75 lbs Golden Retriever!! hahahaaaa
I hope your roller-coaster is on it's final level path and on it's way to the re-start. i can't wait until life settles (although I'm starting to think that there is never a settling point!)
I hope you have a nice day :)
